Interview with Rie Tanaka as Anita and KENN as Leo in the sci-fi suspense drama "Humans"! Available on Hulu Premiere today!
On Wednesday, October 11, "Hulu Premiere" will begin distributing for the first time in Japan "Humans" Season 1, all 8 episodes, an eerie sci-fi suspense drama that predicts a near future in which the line between human and artificial intelligence is collapsing.
This work is broadcast by AMC, an American TV station that has aired numerous hit dramas, including "The Walking Dead," which continues to break records in TV history with its unprecedented success, and "Breaking Bad," which was recognized by Guinness World Records as the highest-rated TV series in history. It is also broadcast by Channel 4, known as the most innovative TV station in the UK, and is one of the most watched dramas in the world.
The story takes place in a world close to the present day, where the high-performance AI robot "Shinsu" is widely used. It will change your life forever. The Hawkins family buys "Shinsu," a robot that can do housework and other tasks in place of humans, to make their busy wife's life easier. Named "Anita," the "Thinsu" was supposed to be an elaborately programmed robot. What is the truth behind this robot?
Jemma Chan, who gained attention for her role in "Transformers: The Last Knight King," delicately portrays both the emotionless AI robot and the protagonist Anita, who occasionally recalls memories from her past and shows slight emotions. Academy Award-winning actor William Hurt plays the key role of Dr. Millican, a former researcher of Shinsu.
For the Japanese dubbing, Rie Tanaka will play the main character Anita (Mia), Kenn as Leo, who knows Mia's past, Takayuki Sugo as Dr. George Millican, Atsushi Miyauchi as Joe Hawkins, the father of the Hawkins family, and Nisca as "Shinsu," the same name as Anita. The film is a "Hulu Premiere" and is aired on Hulu's "Hulu Premiere" website.

Akiba Research Institute interviewed Ms. Tanaka, who plays Anita (Mia), and Mr. Kenn, who plays Leo. We asked them to talk about the film and the appeal of this eerie sci-fi suspense drama.
⇒The two win an instant photo autographed by the two actors!
---First of all, please tell us how interesting and appealing this film is for you to dub.
Rie Tanaka (Tanaka): What I thought was interesting was that it was set not in the near future, but in the present day, about the same time as we live in. I thought it was interesting that the world is set not in the near future, but in the present day, about the same time as we live. It is a world where it is normal to have a high-performance robot in every household, and robots are dispatched from hospitals to take care of caregivers. Having one robot per family is like having another person in the house other than the family members, so I think the highlight of the film is how each person treats the other. Some families treat the robots like family members, others treat them like lovers, and still others treat them as robots.
KENN: As Tanaka-san said, I thought it was interesting that in today's world, robots called "Shinsu" are commonplace and live together with everyone. I wondered how I would live with such a robot if it existed in the real world. How people interact with robots differs greatly from household to household and person to person, so it is interesting to see how they interact with robots.
Tanaka Yes, yes. It is interesting.
KENN The title "Humans" is a bit of a misnomer, but I thought it was truly a human drama about "humans. The subtleties between humans come out more clearly because of the presence of robots.
Tanaka Conversely, there are places where life is turned upside down because of the presence of robots.
─ ─ Are there cracks in human relationships?
Tanaka I thought that the "A" turned upside down in the English title might have something to do with that.
─ ─ The opening title?
TANAKA I thought it might have something to do with the mysterious point where the human mind is disturbed by the robot in various ways, where the rhythm and cycle are disrupted, and that is why it is turned inside out.
KENN: On the other hand, there are scenes in which the robot and the human are together, and a very pure sense of compassion is born.
─ ─ I can see a different relationship between humans in each scene.
KENN: So I can't say that "robots are bad" in general, nor can I say that they are "very good. In the relationship between humans and robots, I felt that there were things that I did not notice in my daily life and things that I could learn.
Tanaka: Even though they look exactly the same.
─ May I ask you about the character you played?
Tanaka: Anita was originally named "Mia" and worked with Leo. At the time, I thought she was an aggressive type, but as the story progressed, I realized she was a different person. The story starts off with the story of "Shinsu," who only acts as programmed and is purchased by a family as a housekeeper robot, but unlike the other "Shinsu" characters, he has a mysterious air about him, Unlike the other "Shinsu," it has a mysterious atmosphere.
KENN: It was amazing from the very first episode, and I'm curious about it.
Tanaka I thought, "This Shinsu might be dangerous.
─ ─ From the very beginning of the story, you can already tell that he is a little different from the other "Shinsu" characters, can't you?
KENN: There are words in the story that make you wonder, "What does that mean? Tanaka
TANAKA Laura, the mother of the Hawkins family, begins to notice, or at least to feel a sense of discomfort.
KENN The end of the first episode also ends in a very meaningful way.
Tanaka "Mysterious robot" is the image I have of her.
─ What kind of character is Leo, the character you play?
KENN: At first, Leo is working with a woman (Mia) who I think is Anita, but they break up. After that, the story begins again with him being very desperate for his own purpose. Leo is a very human character. He doesn't have any super powers, or brains, or any other outstanding qualities, but he works very hard like a human being, and I think his charm lies in the purity of his dedication and hard work. He also has his own mysteries, which are gradually being solved.
Tanaka Actually, the recording session will be over soon, so I know the story a long way in advance. I think I might accidentally say something unnecessary.
KENN I'm afraid that if I tell you, it might take away from your enjoyment.
Tanaka At least the first touch.
KENN I wonder if it's Anita, Mia, or someone who looks like .......
Tanaka I hope you look forward to seeing it every time.
