Where do OLDCODEX go? The answer was on stage! OLDCODEX Tour 2017 "they go, Where?

On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, popular rock unit OLDCODEX held a solo live concert at Zepp Tokyo.

The live was the first time that vocalist Ta_2 wrote all the songs and painter YORKE. wrote all the lyrics for the album, making it one of the most pure albums ever.

Fans may be wondering how these songs will be performed on stage.

Let us report on the first day of the two-day Tokyo concert.

Anyway, the music was stirring! OLDCODEX was nonstop from the beginning of the show.

The stage at Zepp Tokyo, the venue for this year's event, was set up so powerfully that YORKE's artwork seemed to leap out into the audience, overwhelming everyone who stepped onto the floor. It seemed to embody the creativity of OLDCODEX and foreshadow the colorful sounds that would be played at the upcoming live performance.

With such a sense of "something is about to start," the live performance finally got underway. First, "problem," the opening song of the new album, was followed by "Get up to go" and the heavy band sound shook the venue. The floor gradually heated up to the heavy, medium beat that resonated in the audience's stomachs.

As if to unleash all the emotions that had been building up since the opening of the show, the band performed a new song, "Faith In Me," which was full of a sense of speed. YORKE. ran his brush across the canvas in time with the accelerating sound.

The floor was filled with powerful shouts from the audience, but Ta_2 was not satisfied yet. He repeatedly asked the floor, "You're still quiet," "Are you done yet? repeatedly, and the audience's voices grew louder and louder each time. Ta_2 responded with a series of shouts, "Is that all there is to it? Ta_2 shouted "This is it! Finally, he raised his fist high in the air as if to announce the beginning of the live performance.

Ta_2

I'm going to pump it up! After that, you'll know for the first time where we're going.

Ta_2 shouted the title of the tour, "they go, where?" and the next song was "Seek your turn. The next song was "Seek your turn." A catchy guitar riff rang out, and the audience cheered loudly, shaking the floor. Ta_2 and the audience exchanged songs as if they were playing catch with each other during the chorus of "Catarrhythm," and the audience jumped in unison to the rhythm of the chorus of "#4," a standard live song! The audience jumped in unison to the rhythm of the chorus of "#4," a standard live song! The audience was further excited by a series of songs with catchy melodies and aggressive band sounds typical of OLDCODEX. Ta_2 sang and YORKE. sometimes painted and sometimes acted as an agitator, enlivening the floor, making it impossible to take one's eyes off not only the sound but also the performance itself.

YORKE.

Let's shake our heads next time!

Ta_2's words kicked off "Backed out. The audience joined in the song with head banging and clapping. The members and the floor became one, and the first half of the live went by in a flash.

Where are we headed? YORKE.'s performance was like a search for the answer.

OLDCODEX had been performing almost nonstop up to this point, and as they approached the midpoint of their performance, Ta_2 took a break and revealed that this was the first time he was standing on stage wearing earphones.

The larger the stage, the more difficult it is for the audience to hear the music. So, he said, "If you speak louder, we can hear you! He stirred up the audience again. The audience cheered even louder in response to his affectionate exhortation.

The audience's enthusiasm rose to such a high level that one wondered, "How far will they go? But the band members themselves probably didn't care about that. Anyway, I want to see how far they can go! We must push forward! Such a feeling could be clearly felt from the stage.

In the middle part of the live, the stage was filled with introspection as the band asked themselves "Where are we going?

After "loose my breath" and "Outsomnia," a rock ballad, the band moved on to "bund," a song with a post-rock feel.

Here, Ta_2 moved into the shade of a three-dimensional object surrounded by canvases on three sides. On the other hand, YORKE. painted on the object in the center of the stage.

The paintings, set to a floating soundtrack, seemed almost divine. Then, during "A Black Toy," a crossover between EDM and band sounds, the audience was treated to fluorescent paint in the dark. And then, "?" and YORKE. ripped the painted canvas with his bare hands. The imposing figure of YORKE. was a solitary figure to all intents and purposes.

The lead number from the new album, "Where'd They Go?" brought the entire audience to a sing-along and closed the dramatic middle part of the live performance.

Where are we going?"

I think I saw a part of the answer to this question on stage, where OLDCODEX made full use of their unique performance characteristic of live painting.

Having thus obtained their own answer, OLDCODEX dispelled the downer mood they had been in up to that point with the words "Let's be happy from now on! (Ta_2), as if to dispel the downer they had been in, they performed "Julio. The song was a surprise to the audience, who were invited to join the band members in singing along with a fan from the floor. The audience was filled with the most festive and peaceful scene of the day, with no one above or below them.

To be stronger! The last half of the raging live performance

Here, "Where did we go back then?" And, 'Where do we go from here?'" YORKE. says, "We've been touring under the theme of 'Where did we go back then?

As he spun his words one by one, Ta_2 responded with a comical reaction, "Sorry, I wasn't listening to you at all (laughs).

YORKE. shouted out loudly along with Ta_2 on the loud number "reel. The killer tunes were performed nonstop: "Deal with" with its high-speed beat and Ta_2's screams, "Anthem," which is becoming a new standard for the band, and "Scribble, and beyond," which is the culmination of the tie-up song with the anime "Kuroko no Basketball. The band performed killer tunes nonstop.

The tension on the floor naturally skyrocketed as the band continued to play high-tension and catchy tunes, many of which were anime tie-up songs. Ta_2 was also impressed by the excitement, saying, "Oh, man, this is so much fun! This is so much fun! It's so much fun! While showing his excitement, Ta_2 confessed that he had been working on this album with a great deal of anxiety and wondered how it would be received by listeners.

The title of the album, "they go, where?" was a verbalization of their own feelings without hiding them. Ta_2 then expressed his honest feelings, saying, "I hope they finally landed in a good place," and "Thank you for putting on a good face today.

The last song of the live was "Million from Codex," which was also the last song on the album.

I wonder where we are going, what we can do together," he said. It would be great if we could make a song about the two of us.

This song was born from these thoughts after the last tour, and is a moving rock tune filled with the band's determination and gratitude to their fans. The emotional sound of the song, which evoked the beginning of a new story, colored the finale of the main live performance.

After that, the band reappeared on stage to the endless calls for "OCD," and once again brought the audience to the crucible of excitement with "Walk," "Eyes in chace," and a new song, "smilimg. The last number, "smilimg," was especially moving as Ta_2 and the audience stretched out their hands to each other. It was truly a moment when OLDCODEX and the audience became one through music.

After all the performances, Ta_2 shouted as they parted, "I'm coming back stronger than ever, so just wait for me, you bastard! Ta_2 shouted. Next year, the long-awaited arena show is scheduled, but above all, this tour has only just begun. The tour is still going on all over Japan.

How much stronger and bigger will OLDCODEX become? It was a live performance that made me look forward to seeing them more than ever.
