The "Ukiyoe Woodblock Print" series is a collaboration of leading Japanese characters and craftsmen who have inherited traditional techniques from the Edo period to create authentic Ukiyoe woodblock prints. The film is based on "Girls und Panzer: The Final Chapter" and the streets of Oarai.

The original artwork for "Girls und Panzer: The Final Chapter, Oarai Beautiful Sisters" was created by Isao Sugimoto, who also worked as a character designer and chief animation director for the main anime series. Oarai, the setting of the anime, is arranged in the style of ukiyoe. The sisters Nishizumi Miho and Maho are depicted in gorgeous kimonos against a backdrop full of elements that would make any fan hot, such as the torii gate at Kamiiso, not to mention the school ships and tanks.

The woodblock engraving based on the original drawing was done by Saeko Baba, who has inherited the ukiyoe engraving technique, one of the few remaining today. She spent two months carving the detailed outlines drawn by Ms. Sugimoto. In particular, the facial expressions, which are the lifeblood of the characters, are so elaborate that they could be mistaken for digital prints.

The printing was done by Okada Takuya, a woodblock print artisan who belongs to the Association for Preservation of Intangible Cultural Properties of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. He reproduced the vivid colors and tones of the original prints using traditional techniques.

This Ukiyoe woodblock print is a fusion of Japan's most popular characters and traditional Japanese techniques that have been used for hundreds of years. The first edition is limited to 100 copies (!). So be sure to reserve your copy early.
