The series has sold more than 21 million copies in print and electronic editions, won the 2nd Manga Grand Prize (2009), ranked first in the "Onna" section of "This Manga is Amazing! Chihayafuru," based on a coming-of-age manga about competitive karuta, has been adapted into a TV anime for a total of two seasons. With its beautiful visuals and passionate coming-of-age story, it was popular not only among women but also among men. Directed by Morio Asaka, series composition by Naoya Takayama, character design by Kunihiko Hamada, and animation production by Madhouse.
