Messages from Ichiro Mizuki and Mitsuko Horie] (*Honorific titles omitted)

Ichiro Mizuki (Mizuki):
I watched the script and DVD that I received in advance many times and was worried about whether I could fit the lines into the script. I went into the studio thinking that I would learn from Mitch (Mitsuko Horie) as I went along.

In the studio, with Mitch next to me, I felt like I was performing a duet on a live stage.
However, singing and dubbing are completely different, and you might think that I couldn't use the same words and emotions as when I was singing, but I did the best I could. I think postrecording is really difficult. I felt that voice actors are really wonderful.

Miyako Horie (hereinafter referred to as "Horie"):
I am still occasionally invited to do postrecording work, but today was my first time in a postrecording studio in a while. Unlike singing, the play is created by all the performers, and this time it was just Mizuki and I. Since we recorded after everyone else had finished, I was able to participate in the recording while feeling the chemistry between the two of us.

Everyone's acting was so good that it was fun just to listen to it. So it was really fun to join in with the rhythm.
Mr. Mizuki and I always sing together, but when it came to the play, it was like we were different people (laughs). I felt a little uncomfortable.

Mizuki:
(laughs). I was so nervous.

Horie:
Mr. Mizuki was given firm direction by the sound director, so I didn't have to give him any advice, but I did give him little signs from time to time about the timing of his breath.

Mizuki:
It was fun, wasn't it? I got a lot of lines, and I'm looking forward to the next recording.

■Horie:
It may not happen again, but I'll ask them to let me do it again.

■Mizuki:
Mitch and I have known each other for more than 45 years, which is longer than my family, so I didn't feel at all uncomfortable or anxious about playing a married couple. We were able to be exactly the same as we normally are on stage or in the dressing room.

Horie:
I usually have a role on stage where I'm the comedian and he's the goofball, and this time I got to play that kind of character.

Mizuki: To be honest, I don't know that much about Shogi:
To be honest, I don't know that much about Shogi, but having the opportunity to participate in the production and to experience Shogi, I really felt that the more I know about it, the more I will enjoy playing it.

Horie: I didn't know Shogi either:
I didn't know Shogi either, but with the recent Shogi boom, my antenna for Shogi has been aroused, so I felt that it was timely that I was asked to participate in this work. Even if you don't know Shogi, I was fascinated by the story and the characters in this drama. I think this work may be an opportunity for more people to come into contact with Shogi and become interested in the game. It is really interesting to have a Shogi work with a non-adult protagonist, and I think the anime will be popular as well.
