EGOIST releases the best album of 6 years with YUZURIHA Inori on one album!

EGOIST, who have sung many anime theme songs such as "HERO: The Poem of Destiny," the ending theme of "Fate/Apocrypha" and "KABANERI OF THE IRON FORTRESS," the opening theme of "Kabaneri of the Iron Castle," will release their first best album on the 6th anniversary of the start of their activities. EGOIST will release its first best album on its 6th anniversary. EGOIST originally existed within the story of the TV anime "Guilty Crown" as a unit in which YUZURIHARA Inori, the heroine of the anime, sings as the vocalist. However, EGOIST has since expanded out of the story and has become very active in the real world. With each release of a new song, they have expanded their musicality.
On the occasion of the release of their best album, we asked the vocalist, chelly, to look back on the trajectory of their career.

For me, YUZURIHA Inori is "ALTER EGO

─ This is the first bests album for EGOIST, isn't it?

chelly We have released a lot of songs, and I think that this best album was released at the 6th anniversary of our activities, which is a milestone and a chance for us to move on to a new stage.

─ What criteria did you use to select and compose the songs?

chelly I selected mainly single songs and arranged them in a way that goes back in time, from the latest single "Hero: Poem of Destiny" to the debut song "Departures: Ai no Uta for you. For me, it means going back to my roots, back to my original intention, and I believe that fans will be able to feel EGOIST's growth.

─ ─ What do you think of yourself when you look back at the time of "Departures ~Ai no uta kuru anata ni okeru ai no uta" (Departures: Song of the Eye for you)?

chelly I didn't know what was right or left (laughs). (laughs) I didn't really feel like a professional, and I was just trying my best to give back what ryo-san asked of me.

───Supercell's vocal audition was how you met ryo, wasn't it?

chelly Yes. I met him for the first time when I was in the studio screening stage. There were many adult men in the room, but I could tell by the atmosphere that this was ryo-san, and I felt a different vibe from the other singers.

─ ─ Is there anything you remember from the recording of "Departures - An Ai no Uta for you"?

chelly I did voice training before going on stage. At that time, my voice training teacher corrected my singing habits. But I dared to ignore it and sang the song, and that is the soundtrack that is now on the CD. I don't really know why I was so cocky, but in the end, it became a part of who I am and a part of what my fans like about me. So now I feel that I should be cheeky once in a while (laughs).

─ ─ I guess you could say that you stuck to your own personality.

chelly I guess I felt both sorry for ignoring them and a bit naive in that I could not compromise on this part. After that, I sang freely.

───What kind of quirks were you warned about?

chelly: I was the type of singer who would falsify my singing without permission, and would not sing the notes as they were meant to be sung. Rather than trying to fix that, I thought it would be better if it became a taste of the song.

─ ─ "Departures ~Anata ni Okuru Ai no Uta~" was a calm ballad.

chelly It was a mature type of song that I had never sung before. So I was worried that I wouldn't be able to handle it, but I was very determined to sing it. It was like a page from my youth (laughs).

───Yuzuriha Inori from "Guilty Crown" existed, and singing as her was different from a normal debut, wasn't it?

chelly I felt the difficulty of singing as YUZURIHA Inori and mixing the nuances of my own singing. I felt frustrated that I couldn't sing it as my own song honestly, and I also felt pride as an expressive person to sing it while wearing Inori-chan's clothes, and it is the same now.

─ Was "Euterpe" the next song you sang?

chelly No, actually "Euterpe" was recorded before "Departures ~A Song of Ai for You~. So, I feel that it contains a kind of ambition for an amateur to somehow leave his mark. Also, I have a strong impression that it is the first song as YUZURIHA Inori, rather than as EGOIST. It was played at the beginning of the first episode, and it was the first time I experienced my song on the airwaves, so I am deeply attached to it.

─ For fans, it was also the moment when Inori's song was born. The title of the best album, "ALTER EGO" means "another self, alter ego," which is exactly the relationship between Inori and chelly.

chelly That's right. Inori and I are two different personalities, or rather two sides of the same coin, so I thought this was the only word I could use to describe our six years of activities as EGOIST. It is a way of saying that this is the kind of person I see Inori as.
