Episode 9 "Aniken, Zutteng

Script by Daisuke Tazawa Storyboard by Yo Nakano

Direction by Rion Hisashiro Animation Supervisor by Fumiaki Murakami

--I was wondering what would happen after the clean final episode in episode 8, but then I thought, "What?" (laughs).

Morii: "Huh? That's right (laughs).

Tazawa: Even the writer thought, "What? (laughs).

Kubo We all watched it together, and we were like, "What was that last week? What did we talk about last week?" (laughs).

--(laughs).

Tazawa: Episode 9 is the second part. And in episode 10, we have the genius Sasano, so we are just taking steps to pass the baton (laughs).

Hirota Sensei, I loosened the screws!

Tazawa: Now all you have to do is blow off the screws, and you're good to go.

Hirota Episodes 9 and 10 are a set, and episode 11 is the "extra" third part (laughs).

Morii: In episode 9, I really like the "A launch happens" at the beginning of the episode. I thought it was very realistic.

Tazawa I would like to say that the "A certain way to launch" was decided upon after discussion among all the writers, and is not my personal opinion! (Laughs)

Hirota I said, "Definitely include it! (laughs).

Tazawa: When I wrote a summary of everyone's opinions, I was told, "Mr. Tazawa, it's too long. It's too dark." I was told to go to .......

Hirota This time, I was more reserved about the writer's part, so he said, "No, no, no, no. I want to write this part. The darkness of the writers is quite apparent in episodes 7, 8, and 9.

Kubo I'm not sure what was the main point (laughs).

Tazawa: Personally, I was very happy with the scene where he throws the magic ball. I asked him to throw a magic ball like "Miracle Giants Dome-kun," which I loved, and was surprised when he said, "There is someone who did the animation.

Kubo I did a little bit of that too.

Morii But this was before the advent of the Internet, so it was difficult because there were no materials available.

--Morii: I thought that if it was a baseball story, there would be other famous works, but "Dome-kun" seemed to be a little above the pale.

Morii There were some works that we thought we should avoid.

Kubo Actually, it had to do with whether or not to obtain permission to use the official name. We decided to proceed with "Anime Gatari's" in the form of a so-called parody or homage without obtaining permission, so there were some works that we decided not to mention (laughs).

(laughs) -- You haven't been offended by any of them yet, have you?

Kubo: Strangely enough, no one has been angry with us.

--Kubo: Was everything all right in terms of the music and so on?

Morii It was more of a self-parody, because the person who actually wrote the music wrote it. He was also the one who did the play accompaniment for the flyers, so he knew what he was doing (laughs).

■Episode 10 "Aniken, Yat Hive

Script by Megumi Sasano Storyboard by Yoshiyuki Kaneko

Direction: Yoshiyuki Kaneko Animation Director: Takashi Kobayashi

--The opening of the 10th episode is the only version, which surprised me. I heard that Mr. Kubo did this.

Kubo: I am the culprit! But that's not true (laughs). At the script meeting, I was told, "It's going to be a pretty serious story, so why not have Yada-chan in the opening? Let's just go into the opening as usual. At that time, I said, "Well, why don't we just have Yui in the opening? I said, "Well, why don't we just have Yada-chan in the opening?

Morii Please go ahead, I said (laughs).

Kubo This was made in the style of so-called "official MAD," but I used real after-effects compositions and replaced the graphics.

Morii There were some facial expressions that were not used in the film.

Kubo Those were used from the character list. When we decided to replace them all with Yui's, we tried to make them from episodes 1 through 8, but surprisingly there weren't enough cuts (laughs). So I waited until the very last minute and inserted all of the material after the pictures for episode 9 were finished. For the last scene where everyone runs at once, I thought it would be strange to return to normal only here, so I thought, ......, it's just a fucking collage, right? I didn't give the director of photography any particular order, but when Minoa turns around in the original video, he turned the damn collage upside down (laughs).

--(Laughs) - I am very particular about this. In terms of content, this is the end of the second part.

Kubo: The order was to put aside the mystery of the world for the time being, and to neatly collect all the other foreshadowing related to Minoai in episode 10, so that the audience will be able to say, "Oh, that's right! and "That's what happened!

Hirota: We decided to wrap up the story in 10 episodes as a grand circle of events that could have happened in real life, such as "Why is the Aniken group being treated so viciously? There are some fantasy elements, though. I thought that an anime that was cancelled after only one episode would have become legendary, but I decided to go for it.

Kubo: Surprisingly, before the Internet was in full swing, anime like that would be buried and people wouldn't know about it. For example, not many people knew about "Don Dracula," which was cancelled after only four episodes.

Morii: That's why I told the director, "This is the last episode. Please make it look like the last episode. But episode 10 was good, wasn't it? I thought it was a good final episode.

Hirota Episode 8 was a good final episode, and episode 10 was also a good final episode. I thought, "Why not?

--(Laughs.) And the most remarkable thing is that Ryusei Nakao played the role of the school principal. He said that line at the end and left.

Kubo: Mr. Nakao was chosen a few weeks before the recording of episode 10, but since that time, I kept asking myself, "Should I have him say 'bai bai kin'? Is that okay?" (laughs).

--(laughs) - was that ad-libbed?

Kubo: It wasn't in the script, so I asked him to say it on the spot. (I said, "I want you to say 'baibaikin'" (fearfully) at ......, and Mr. Nakao said, "Shall we do 'Frieza' too? I said, "Let's do Frieza, too. He seemed to have a good sense of humor (laughs).

Morii: Mr. Nakao's part was recorded by Mr. Nakao and Mr. Hondo after everyone else had finished recording, but all the voice actors stayed behind that day.

Takeuchi: In the final scene with the headmaster, you didn't flinch at all, did you? Many young actors get nervous or excited and their voices get hoarse, but Mr. Hondo didn't have that problem at all. When I asked him, "Aren't you nervous? I asked her, "I'm having fun! I thought she was amazing.

Kubo They were evenly matched.
