Broadcasting TV anime "BEATLESS" and tie-up with the Cabinet Cyber Security Center!

The TV anime "BEATLESS," which is currently airing on TV, and the Cabinet Cyber Security Center have decided to tie up.

BEATLESS" is a boy-meets-girl story about "humans" and "things" written by science fiction writer Toshi Hase, who has continued to create a detailed and magnificent worldview through his "My Humanity" (Hayakawa Bunko JA), which won the 35th Japan Science Fiction Grand Prize, and novelizations of the "Metal Gear" series.

The director is Seiji Mizushima, who has gained overwhelming support for his works such as "Mobile Suit Gundam 00" and "Expelled From Paradise. The original character design is by redjuice, an illustration designer who has been highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad for the unique atmosphere and unconventional expression of his illustrations, including illustrations by the fictional artist "EGOIST," "Guilty Crown," and the anime films "Empire of the Corpse," "Harmony," and "Slaughterhouse Organ" based on Keisuke Ito's work. The illustrations are created by redjuice. The series is currently airing on MBS/TBS/BS-TBS "Anime-ism" slot.

This time, a tie-up with the Cabinet Cyber Security Center has been decided! As part of the project, tie-up posters for Cyber Security Month (February 1 - March 18) using the character of "BEATLESS" will be created and distributed to related organizations nationwide.

In addition to the "Cyber Security Month Poster Illustration," comments from the "Cabinet Cyber Security Center" and "BEATLESS" production producer Junichiro Tamura have also been received.

Comments from the Cabinet Cyber Security Center
The government formulated the "New Information Security Awareness Program" (Information Security Policy Council, July 10, 2014), which states that "As a method to widely promote the importance of information security measures to each and every citizen, we will focus on the influence of media that is familiar to the public, and will take actions in cooperation with businesses and creators who handle such media. In addition, the report states that "As a method to promote the importance of information security measures to the public at large, it is effective to collaborate with businesses and creators who deal with such media.

Various activities have been carried out to date to raise public awareness through posters, events, video advertisements in train stations, and other media such as animation and comics, which are familiar to the public. During the Cyber Security Month, the public and private sectors will further promote such activities to raise public awareness and encourage people to take specific information security measures.

Therefore, this year, the Cabinet Cyber Security Center (hereinafter referred to as "NISC") will hold the "National Cyber Security Month" to promote the activities of the NISC. The NISC will tie-up with "BEATLESS," a film that focuses on the theme of "analog hacks," which is similar to social engineering often discussed in cyber security, and will work with the BEATLESS Production Committee to promote and raise public awareness of cyber security. The tie-up will be used to promote cyber security to the public through a variety of projects.

Through this tie-up project, we hope that the purpose of "Cyber Security Month" will be widely spread to each and every citizen, and that awareness of cyber security will be raised.

Comment from Junichiro Tamura, producer of "BEATLESS
With the remarkable development of networks and AI, it is a great honor for us to have "BEATLESS" selected for the cyber security awareness campaign, as it deals with a theme with which we have a very close affinity.

Although the film is set in Japan about 100 years in the future, it depicts a world that is an extension of today's technology. The ever-evolving network and AI are penetrating deeper and deeper into human society, and while these technologies are enriching our lives, they also have the potential to create new attacks, depending on how they are used. As depicted in the film, no one has yet seen what kind of attacks and accidents will occur in the future when autonomous AI robots become an integral part of society. However, we believe that knowledge of "cyber security" will protect us from such things.

Knowledge and technology itself is neither evil nor good, but there are people who misuse any knowledge and technology, and at the end of the day, it is "human beings" who decide what actions to take against such people, as depicted in the anime "BEATLESS". We will be more than happy if we can contribute to this campaign and to the awareness of cyber security through this work.
