YUIKO OHARA HERSELF INVIEW] (*Honorifics omitted.)

Please tell us your impression of the original story.
Ohara: I originally really liked it and had been reading it for a long time. I often read manga on the web, and my first encounter was also on the web. It was introduced as a recommended manga, so I read it and fell in love with its heart-warming worldview. I bought the first volume of the book and have enjoyed reading it ever since, including, of course, "Karakajite no (ex-)Takagi-san" (Mr. Takagi the Teasing Girl).

Do you read them while looking back on your own experiences at the time?
Ohara: Rather than looking back on my own junior high school days, I read from the perspective of Nishikata-kun (laughs). When I was in junior high school, I wasn't the type to make fun of people I liked, but I think I was happy to be teased, so I'm thrilled to be in Nishikata-kun's mind (laughs).

You have been enjoying the spin-offs as well, and now you have been asked to sing the theme song and open the show for the first time. How did you feel at the time?
Ohara: "No way! I felt like, "No way! I was walking in the station when I got the call, but when I answered the phone and heard what they said, I couldn't help but shout out loud even though there were quite a few people around me (laughs). I was walking along the station when I got the call. I remember saying something like, "I love you!

Did you start thinking about what kind of song or lyrics to use at that time?
Ohara: I had a rough idea of "a heart-warming song," and even before that, I had an idea of "if we were to do an anime of 'Mr. Takagi,' what kind of theme song would someone sing? After working together on "Little Witch Academia" and "The Land of Jewels," I began to think that it would be better to think about it together with the creators. So this time, we actually had a meeting with the animation staff to discuss the direction of the project, and they worked with us to come up with the ideas.

Did you encounter any particular difficulties?
Ohara: I always write the melody first, but this time I had a hard time getting the chorus part right.

The tune of the song is also very cute, different from the songs you have released in the past.
Ohara--I often get the impression that I sing laid-back songs because of the tie-ups I have had in the past, but I have loved singing and writing pop songs since before my debut, so I think I was able to show a new side of myself. It's a very fun song to sing, so I was smiling the whole time I was recording it. However, as is always the case, it is difficult to make a song by myself, so the arranger helped me to discover "how a song like this can be made! I am always discovering new things. It's fun to work with the arranger and the musicians on the arrangements, and to see them take shape as a band.

What do you feel when you listen to the finished songs?
Ohara--I remember listening to these songs a lot when I was in junior high and high school. I think life-size lyrics and songs really resonate with that generation. If a song says "changing seats," I remember that phrase every time I change seats. I think the song is a song that can be listened to in that way, and that links Takagi-san's world with my world.

The music video also has a very mysterious and cute atmosphere. What was the concept behind it?
Ohara--We talked about creating a nostalgic picture of school and nature during the meeting, and we shot the music video in a retro elementary school and its surroundings, very close to the world of "Mr. Takagi," which fits that image perfectly. After consulting with the art director from "Little Witch Academia," it was decided to bring out the "eggs. Eventually, as the sun sets, the egg glows, cracks, and sprouts musical notes, which then fly away, making the work a bit mysterious. The location of the filming with a drone and full of greenery made it a lot of fun and different from our previous music videos.

I heard that the CD jackets are also linked to each other by type.
Ohara: That's right. The paper airplane flying on the "Artist Edition" jacket is the one that Mr. Takagi is flying on the other "Anime Edition," so it links to the world view of "Mr. Takagi.

■From the music to the artwork, it is full of playfulness while respecting "Mr. Takagi," which makes me happy. Lastly, please tell us again how you feel about the tie-up and the first opening of "Mr. Takagi the Teasing Girl".
Ohara: I really like this work, so I never thought I would be in charge of it. When it came to writing this song, my love for the work was so great that I felt no pressure and really enjoyed everything about it. As this is my first time to be in charge of the opening, I hope that you will feel a new me again and enjoy the music video and CD jacket that link to the world of "Mr. Takagi"!

I hope you will enjoy the music videos and CD jackets that link to the world of "Mr. Takagi!
