Kyo and Shang will return to Shinjuku! The new "City Hunter the Movie" will be released in 2019! Key visual and SP movie will be released!

An animated feature film version of "City Hunter," which still boasts enormous popularity around the world, will be released in 2019.

City Hunter" is a character named Akira Saeba, who fights against evil that cannot be judged by law, taking on various commissions in Shinjuku. He is the No. 1 sweeper in the underworld with top-notch marksmanship, but he is also an unparalleled lover of women. His partner, Kaori Makiura, sometimes "fights off" his attempts to harm female clients, while at the same time supporting him as a business partner and helping him grow.

The original story by Tsukasa Hojo, which depicts their exploits in a sometimes hard-boiled, sometimes comical manner, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1985, and in 1987, a TV anime produced by Sunrise and broadcast on Yomiuri and Nippon Television began. The series has become a blockbuster hit with 140 episodes, three special programs, and three movie versions.

Now, a new animated film "City Hunter the Movie (tentative title)" will be released in early spring 2019!　The original cast from the TV anime, Akira Kamiya as Akira Saeba and Kazue Ikura as Kaoru Makiura, will continue to play the roles, and Sunrise will continue to handle the animation production. The animation production will continue to be handled by Sunrise. Kanetsugu Kodama, who directed the TV anime and previous "City Hunter" films, will be the general director, and Yoichi Kato, who worked on "Yokai Watch" and wrote the series composition and screenplay, will write the script.

The story of "City Hunter the Movie (tentative title)" is a completely new one, set in present-day Shinjuku, where the two characters, Kage and Kaoru, are active!　The first visual, which was also released at the same time, was drawn by Tsukasa Hojo, the author of the original novel!

In addition, a special movie commemorating the production decision and comments from Tsukasa Hojo, the original author, Kanetsugu Kodama, the general director, Akira Kamiya, who plays the role of Akira Saeba, and Kazue Ikura, who plays the role of Kaoru Makiura have also arrived.

City Hunter" is a work I drew when I was young. There are many things in this work, such as youthful indiscretion, so I think it would be difficult for me to draw "City Hunter" with the same sense as I had back then. But with animation, I can do it. The general director is Kanetsugu Kodama, so I am confident that it will be an interesting work that hits all the right notes. In addition, Akira Kamiya and Kazue Ikura will appear in the film, so I expect that "City Hunter" will be revived as it was "back then.
The best thing is for the fans to enjoy the show, so I hope the production team will do their best to meet their expectations. I will of course cooperate with the production team, but I also hope to enjoy it together with everyone.

When I was involved in "City Hunter," I was directing it with a sense of style and action that would hold up over time.
I never thought that 30 years later I would be involved again. However, time stopped in my mind and everything started moving on its own as if it were yesterday. I was surprised even by myself. Above all, this work is fun.
There is hard-boiled, action, gags, and as a director, you don't come across many works that are as rewarding as this one. When I was offered the job, I accepted it immediately. What's more, some of the staff members who will be participating in this project are fans who saw the film in real time at the time. How could I not be motivated in such an enjoyable environment?
The same old Saeba Akane will return to everyone. Please look forward to it.

20 years have passed since the 1999 TV special, and I'm thrilled to be able to meet the two "City Hunter" characters, Akira Saeba and Kaoru Makimura, once again!

I get to swing a 100-ton hammer again?　How happy I am to be able to voice Bika again after 20 years!　And from the looks of Hojo-sensei's drawings, it doesn't look like she's going to settle down quietly. I'm a little worried about whether I have the strength to go on a rampage, but my heart is already filled with fragrance. I can't wait to see it!
