Balls are friends! The cast members were excited to be a part of the event! Report on "TV anime "Captain Tsubasa" Special Stage right before the broadcast" [Anime Japan 2018].
One of Japan's largest anime events, AnimeJapan 2018, was held at Tokyo Big Sight on March 24 (Sat.) and 25 (Sun.), 2018. Here we report on the "TV anime 'Captain Tsubasa' pre-broadcast special stage" held at the BLUE Stage on Saturday, March 24.
The cast included Yufuko Sanpei playing Tsubasa Ozora, Kenichi Suzumura playing Genzo Wakabayashi, Ayaka Fukuhara playing Taro Misaki, and Katsuyuki Konishi playing Roberto Hongo, who also served as MC.
The soccer comic "Captain Tsubasa" by Yoichi Takahashi is a very popular work loved by soccer boys all over the world, even outside Japan. The story depicts a young soccer boy, Tsubasa Ozora, who believes that "the ball is his friend," as he grows through matches against teammates and many rivals.
Three TV series, five theater productions, and one OVA have been produced to date, and now a new TV anime will begin broadcasting in April 2018.
Since this is a very popular work that has continued for more than 30 years, a large number of fans gathered on stage at the BLUE Stage at "AnimeJapan 2018," as this was the first time it was unveiled to fans. The four cast members who took the stage seemed to realize once again the popularity of this work as they witnessed the excitement of the fans who had gathered.
The first thing that was shown on stage was the latest PV of the film, which was released for the first time.
The video was subtitled in English, reminding the audience of the worldwide popularity of this work.
As the latest video introduced the characters, Sanpei and Fukuhara, who were aware of the work but had never read the original, brought up the topic of how the male cast members were doing on the set. Many of the participating cast members are also "Captain Tsubasa" fans, and the men in particular get excited at every recording session. On stage, Suzumura-san said that he loves "Captain Tsubasa" so much that he has so many things to say about it, and Konishi-san recalled that when he was playing soccer, he admired Kojiro Hyuga and tried to dribble in a straight line, but he could not even feint and was naturally cut off. The two men's onstage banter provided a glimpse into the excitement of the male audience at the event.
Here, the beginning of the first full-length movie of the first episode was shown. In the opening scene, the young Tsubasa and his mother are seeing his father, the captain of a ship, off to work when he runs out into the street chasing a soccer ball. According to Suzumura, there is also a scene in which Tsubasa's father watches Tsubasa's games on his tablet while on a voyage, and it seems that various parts of the story have been rearranged for the modern era.
Next, a scene featuring goalkeeper Genzo Wakabayashi, Tsubasa's first rival, was shown. Wakabayashi is nicknamed "S.G.G.K. (Super Great Goalkeeper)" because "he can stop 100% of shots from outside the penalty area," Suzumura-san said enthusiastically, and the audience was filled with a warm feeling.
The stage was also filled with talk of rival characters such as Kojiro Hyuga, Ken Wakashimatsu, and Jun Misugi, all of whom are looking forward to their appearance. The excited cast members even requested to hold a stand-alone event of the work or a talk event while watching all the episodes.
The stage was filled with love for the work, and ended with a passionate message from the cast to the fans.
The TV anime "Captain Tsubasa," which is sure to start a new legend, will begin airing on TV Tokyo and other stations on April 2 (Mon.).
