Tatsuro Yamashita will join Mamoru Hosoda's latest film "Mirai no Mirai" for the second time in 9 years! Yamashita wrote the OP theme and theme song for the film!

Mamoru Hosoda's latest film in three years, "Mirai no Mirai," will be released on Friday, July 20, 2018, and it has been announced that Tatsuro Yamashita will write the opening song and two theme songs for the film for the first time in nine years, since "Summer Wars" theme song "Our Summer Dream."

The theme songs for "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time," "Summer Wars," "Wolf Children: Rain and Snow," and 2015's "Bakemono no Koko," which depicted the world of humans and beasts and drew a huge response, have all been released one after the other, and are now being produced in Japan and abroad. Mamoru Hosoda, who has created one blockbuster animation film after another and is now attracting the most attention in Japan and abroad, will release his new film "Mirai no Mirai" on July 20, 2018 (Friday).
Animation Film Screening Schedule

Summer Wars" depicts a summer of interaction between a high school student and a large family in the countryside, and "Wolf Children: Rain and Snow" depicts the independence of two children and the mother who raises them. The previous film "Bakemono no ko" depicted the adventures of a lone boy and his bond with a "monster" who becomes his master. Universal themes that everyone can relate to have been projected onto the screen, sometimes realistically, sometimes fantastically and colorfully.

In "Mirai no Mirai," his first new film in three years, Director Hosoda has written the original story and screenplay himself, as he did in the previous film. The main character, a pampered 4-year-old boy named Kun-chan, meets his younger sister Mirai, who has come from the future, and grows up through a series of first-time experiences.

It has been announced that Tatsuro Yamashita will write the opening theme and theme song for the film.

In response to Director Hosoda's wishes and thoughts, Mr. Yamashita readily agreed to write the music for the film. Mr. Yamashita, who has been increasingly active as his regular radio program "Sunday Songbook" celebrates its 25th anniversary, has taken time out of his busy schedule to write two songs that will add color to this animation masterpiece.

This is the second collaboration between director Hosoda and Yamashita since "Summer Wars" in 2009, and the first time in nine years. This is a long-awaited collaboration for fans of both directors and Yamashita.

The two had numerous meetings about "Mirai no Mirai" and worked on the music while receiving each other's thoughts and feelings.
The two songs are "Mirai's Theme," an up-tempo pop tune suitable for the opening announced this time, and the theme song played at the ending, which is currently under production, and will offer the latest type of Tatsuro numbers that match the world view of the movie.

These two songs can be said to play a role in wrapping up the film, "bringing people who come to the cinema to the story and concluding it. Just like Mamoru Hosoda's films, Yamashita's voice is sure to touch the hearts of people of all ages, not only in Japan but around the world, and will gently wrap up this film and everyone's future.

These two songs will be released on July 11 as Yamashita's 51st single.

Comments from Director Hosoda and Ms. Yamashita have been received, and will be introduced below.

Tatsuro Yamashita
Following the success of "Summer Wars," I am pleased to be working with Director Mamoru Hosoda again. This is the first time for me to work with the same director again, and also the first time for me to provide two songs. I am honored. I will do my best. This is another wonderful work by Hosoda-san that combines home drama and fantasy.

Director Mamoru Hosoda
When I decided to make an animated film "Mirai no Mirai" featuring a small child, I asked Tatsuro-san, whom I adore, to write a fun song for it. The resulting song was a trembling masterpiece of unrelenting perfection. It is a superlative gift from Mr. Tatsuro for all children.
