It won't break even if you step on it! Tanita releases "Sega Saturn Body Composition Scale," a faithful reproduction of the Sega Saturn, on April 26!

Tanita Corporation announces the Sega Saturn Body Composition Meter, a body composition monitor that faithfully reproduces the design of the Sega Saturn home video game console, to be released on Thursday, April 26, 2018.

The "Sega Saturn" is a home video game console released in 1994 by Sega Enterprises, Inc. (now Sega Games Co., Ltd.). It was the biggest hit in the company's hardware history for the domestic market. Even though the console has retired from active use as a game machine, it still has a strong fan base, and goods utilizing the Sega Saturn's design are gaining popularity.

The "Sega Saturn Body Composition Analyzer" is a special collaborative product designed to help Sega Saturn users, who are now of an age to be health-conscious, continue to manage their health with their happy memories of the console. Tanita and the Sega Group's idea of combining health promotion and amusement was a match made possible by the collaboration.

Under the supervision of Sega Holdings, the main unit faithfully reproduces the distinctive design of the Sega Saturn down to the smallest detail. The design is based on the Sega Saturn viewed from above, and the buttons necessary to operate the body composition analyzer are arranged so as not to disrupt the atmosphere. Particular attention was paid to the coloring, and after several prototypes, the coloring is said to be close to that of the original. The product packaging also has a nostalgic design reminiscent of the Sega Saturn packaging of the time.

The items measured and displayed are "weight," "body fat percentage," "BMI," and "visceral fat level. It measures 210mm in length, 297mm in width, and 25mm in height, and weighs approximately 1.4kg (including batteries). The device turns on just by getting on it, and automatically identifies the person being measured, making it easy to check one's health every day without having to press any buttons.

The price is 6,000 yen (excluding tax). The limited edition of 1,122 units will be sold to commemorate the Sega Saturn's release date of November 22. In addition to being available at Tanita's online store, the product has also been on pre-sale at some Village Vanguard stores since today, April 13, so if you are interested in purchasing one, be sure to do so as soon as possible!
