Captain Tsubasa" is a soccer comic by Yoichi Takahashi that began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) in 1981. It depicts a soccer boy, Tsubasa Ozora, who believes that "the ball is your friend," and how he grows through games against his teammates and many rivals, triggering a huge soccer boom in Japan when soccer was still at a low ebb in popularity. The popularity of the series has spread outside of Japan, and it is a very popular work loved by soccer boys all over the world. Burn to Hero" was used as the opening theme for the first "Captain Tsubasa" TV anime that was broadcast from 1983, and was sung by Hiroyuki Okita and Yoko Kogushi, who played Tsubasa Ozora in the first TV anime. The lyrics include such impactful words as "butterfly samba" and "chamba mo run," making it an unforgettable song once you hear it.
The popular TV anime "Captain Tsubasa," which is currently airing on TV, has moved the setting to the present day and depicts the elementary school version of the original story.
