Golden Kamui" won the 22nd Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize and Manga Grand Prize!

It has been announced that "Golden Kamui," currently airing a popular anime, has won the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Award Manga Grand Prize.

Golden Kamui" is a popular comic series serialized in Weekly Young Jump by Satoru Noda. Set in Hokkaido at the end of the Meiji Era, the story follows the adventures of a former army soldier, Saichi Sugimoto, and an Ainu girl, Ashi (Ri-pa), who are after Ainu buried treasure. The Ainu culture, customs, and cuisine are realistically depicted in the film, making it a work that can be enjoyed as historical entertainment as well.

The TV animation version is directed by Hittoshi Namba, director of "Fate/Grand Order -First Order-," with series composition by Noboru Takagi, director of "Kuroko no Basketball," and character design by Kenichi Onuki, character animation director for "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blood Orphens. Production is being handled by Geno Studio of "Slaughterhouse" fame, and the anime has been airing since April 2018.

It was announced that "Golden Kamui" won the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Award's "Manga Grand Prize" for the best work of the year.

I am deeply moved by the fact that the judges were able to feel the heat radiating from my muscles after their intense training, as a result of my uncompromising depiction of the beautiful bodies of men. The "Short Award," given to works and authors of short stories, four-panel stories, and single-panel stories, went to Taro Yabe's "Oya-san to Boku" (Shinchosha), The "Special Award" for individuals and organizations that have contributed to the development of manga culture was presented to Tetsuya Chiba for the publication of his first book in 18 years, "Hinemosu no Tari Nikki" (Shogakukan), and for his longtime achievements and contributions to manga culture.


The presentation ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, at Hamarikyu Asahi Hall (Music Hall) in Tsukiji, Tokyo.
The following one city, three wards, and one organization have decided to support the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, as they did last year. The award will also be exhibited in the form of a traveling exhibition of panels of works signed by the award-winning artists.
