Comments from Hironobu Kageyama & NoB from Yumi Matsuzawa's 20th anniversary album, which includes "Mobile Battleship Nadesico" OP "YOU GET TO BURNING"!

Yumi Matsuzawa's 20th anniversary album "Eien no SEED" including "YOU GET TO BURNING," the OP theme of "Mobile Battleship Nadesico," will be released on May 30. Comments from duet song artists Hironobu Kageyama and NoB have arrived.

Yumi Matsuzawa debuted with "YOU GET TO BURNING," the opening theme song for the TV anime "Mobile Battleship Nadesico" (King Record), and the song reached No. 9 on the Oricon chart.
She then released three singles, "OTOHA ~Onna~", "earth song ~Earth song~", and "Kokoro", produced by Hirofumi Asamoto, and started writing lyrics and music at the same time. She sang in the opening theme "Chikyugi" (Saint Seiya: Pluto Hades Twelve Palaces Arc) and the ending theme "Kimi to Iouto Aozora", and also wrote lyrics and music for the anime "Saint Seiya: Pluto Hades Twelve Palaces Arc". She was the first female vocalist in the Saint Seiya series to sing the theme song. She also released the ending theme song "To the One I Trust: My Dear" for the same anime "Saint Seiya: Pluto Hades Underworld Arc," and has sung theme songs for numerous anime and video games, including the anime "Salaryman Kintaro" and "Gatekeepers.
She is one of the leading divas in the anime song world with her looks and a voice that delicately describes the subtleties of emotion, and she is also active in South America, China, and other countries.

Yumi Matsuzawa's 20th anniversary album "Eien no SEED" will be released on May 30. The lead song "Eien no SEED", which includes "YOU GET TO BURNING", the OP theme of "Mobile Battleship Nadesico", was composed by Toshiyuki Omori, who has worked on many other songs including "YOU GET TO BURNING", the OP theme of "Mobile Battleship Nadesico". The original soundtrack of "YOU GET TO BURNING," the OP theme of "Mobile Battleship Nadesico," will also be included.
The jacket will be illustrated by Keiji Goto, the character designer of "Mobile Battleship Nadesico," based on the image of Yumi Matsuzawa.

In addition, guest vocalists are Hironobu Kageyama, prince of the anime world, and NoB, who will perform a divine duet of the immortal and popular "Saint Seiya! A sample of the duet song is now available on the album's special website, so be sure to check it out.

The following is an interview with Yumi Matsuzawa, Hironobu Kageyama, and NoB after recording the duet song.

Hironobu Kageyama

─ You participated in Yumi Matsuzawa's 20th anniversary album as a duet, how did you feel when you first heard about this duet?

Kageyama: She told me directly that she wanted me to sing, and I was happy that she asked me to sing. I have known Matsuzawa for a long time, and we have worked together in various foreign countries, so I thought he was a nice guy. I am grateful to him for inviting me because we are such good friends.

───Please tell us about your first encounter with Yumi Matsuzawa and your image of her at that time.

Kageyama: I don't really remember where we first met, but I think it was on the radio or on TV or something like that. I thought she was very cheerful, just like now, and I thought she was easy to talk to in an unpretentious way. From a distance, I thought he might be a bit of a jerk just by looking at his looks, but he has a very good personality, and I was surprised at the gap between his looks and his personality.

───What did you think of the recording of the cover duet of "Saint Seiya"'s second OP theme "Saint Myth: Soldier Dream "?

Kageyama: For me, "Saint Mythology : Soldier Dream " is a turning point song. I sang my first tokusatsu song in 1985 and sang anime/tokusatsu songs, and I think this song was written in about 1988. I think it was still more than a year before I sang "Dragon Ball," so when I sang "Saint Mythology: Soldier Dream," anime fans said, "Oh, Kageyama is pretty good! Kageyama is pretty good." It was the first song that made anime fans recognize me, so it was a turning point for me and a very important song.

─ ─ Please tell us if there are any particular points you would like us to pay attention to in this cover duet of "Saint Seiya"'s second OP theme "Saint Mythology: Soldier Dream".

Kageyama: The original song is a very rock song, so at first I did not have an image of Matsuzawa as a rock singer, and I was wondering if he would sing such a song. The key was the same as the original version I was singing, so I think it was lower for Matsuzawa, but I still thought it was a very good Matsuzawa version.

─ ─ Lastly, please give a message to Yumi Matsuzawa, who is releasing her 20th anniversary album.

Kageyama: Not only me, but also Masaaki Endo, Hiroshi Kitadani, and Ms. Okui-chan around me all love Matsuzawa. I think Matsuzawa has a very one-and-only style musically. There is no one else who can sing like him. I hope that you will continue to cherish your own style as it is now, and keep up the style of anime songs that only Matsuzawa can do.

<Hironobu Kageyama Profile
Kageyama made his debut in 1977 as "Michelle," the vocalist of "LAZY," a band that has shone brightly in the history of Japanese rock music, and in 1985, after transferring to Nippon Columbia, he discovered anime and special effects songs, which led him to "Dengeki Sentai Changeman," "Spaceship Sagittarius," and sang the theme songs for many famous TV shows that would remain in the future. He went on to sing numerous anime songs, among them "Dragon Ball Z" theme song "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA" and "Saint Seiya" theme song "Soldier Dream - Saint Seiya Myth", which established him as a representative of the Japanese anime song world. In 2000, he formed JAM Project, which has left its mark on the ani-song world ever since. He is also very popular overseas and has visited more than 20 countries in Asia, North, Central and South America, and Europe.

NoB

NoB──Yumi Matsuzawa's 20th anniversary album, in which you will participate as a duet, what was your frank impression when you first heard about this duet?

NoB- How did you feel about it? I was happy as usual. (Laughs)

───Could you tell us about your first encounter with Yumi Matsuzawa and your image of her at that time?

NoB We first met when we worked together at an event in Brazil probably 10 years ago, and we have been together since then, so I only have the image I have now. (laughs) Now we are really like relatives. (laughs) So when people ask me what I think about my family, I have a hard time replying. Like a sister, that's how I feel.

───What are your impressions of recording this re-arranged cover duet of the "Saint Seiya" ED theme "Eternal Blue -BLUE FOREVER-"?

NoB My impression is also difficult, but this is the second song I have sung a lot in my life.
Since the arrangement this time has Yumi's taste, I was a little confused at first whether I should change the way I sing it or just sing as usual, but she said it was OK to sing it rather close to the way I usually do, so it was easy. (Laughs)

───Are there any particular points you would like us to pay attention to in the re-arranged cover duet of "Blue Forever"?

NoB Our styles as vocalists are dramatically different. We sing the same Saint Seiya songs, but we are completely different types. We have done overseas tours together, and I think that's why we are able to tour together. I want people to hear how two people with so many different styles would sound like if they dueted like this.

─ ─ Lastly, please give a message to Yumi Matsuzawa, who is releasing her 20th anniversary album.

NoB Congratulations on your 20th anniversary. Yumi is celebrating her 20th anniversary! I am surprised to hear that Yumi is celebrating her 20th anniversary, but I came here to support her from the bottom of my heart. I hope we can continue to sing together for another 20 or 40 years.

<NoB Profile
NoB made her debut in 1984 as a vocalist of MAKE-UP, produced by her high school senior, Munetaka Higuchi of LOUDNESS, and released "Pegasus Illusion" in 1986, which became a big hit. In the 2000s, he continued to work as a solo artist as well as a member of the band "Gomenne Band," and in 2006, he sang the opening theme song for "Todoroki Sentai Bokenger," the 30th episode of the Super Sentai series. Since then, he has been actively involved in the world of anime songs and has performed at numerous international events. In 2011, he sang the ending theme song for the Toei Sentai series "Kaizoku Sentai Go-Gai-Jar" as a member of Project.R. In 2012, he formed DAIDA
Formed LAIDA and sang a duet with Shoko Nakagawa on the theme song "Pegasus Fantasy Ver. Ω" for "Saint Seiya Ω." In 2016, composed music for all of Toei's "Kamen Rider Amazons" series and sang in addition to it for the movie version.

■Yumi Matsuzawa

─ About the duet with Mr. Kageyama. First of all, how did you first meet Kageyama-san and what was your image of him at that time?

Matsuzawa
: I first met her when she was a guest on a radio program at the time of my debut. I was too nervous to talk much at the time, but after that, I was invited as a guest on Kageyama-san's radio show, and I was allowed to visit him at Sparobo... He was my senior who taught me a lot about the anime song world when I had just made my debut.

─ What did you think of the rearranged cover of "Saint Seiya"'s second OP theme "Saint Seiya: Soldier Dream" that you recorded with Mr. Kageyama?

Matsuzawa: It had been a while since I had worked with Kageyama-san, and I was nervous, but beyond the song, his way of life is amazing! It was a recording session that made me feel this again.

─ ─ Are there any points you would like people to pay attention to in the cover of "Saint Mythology: Soldier Dream"?

Matsuzawa: I would like people to pay attention to the mature and jazzy rearrangement of the song by Tosh, the sound producer of this album, without destroying the world view, as well as the singing dialogue between Kageyama-san and me!

─ Regarding the duet with Mr. NoB, how did you first meet him and what was your image of him at that time?

Matsuzawa: I met NoB for the first time at an event called "Sana" in Fortaleza, Brazil in 2006, I believe. I got the impression that he was a cool guy with a Rock☆ look, which is still the same today.

─ What did you think of "Saint Seiya" ED theme "Blue Forever" that you recorded with Mr. NoB?

Matsuzawa: The power of NoB's song is really amazing, so I think NoB's song really lifted me up. Even though the arrangement was changed, NoB's style was still alive and well!
It was a recording session that I could imagine people getting excited all over the world, including South America and China.

─ ─ Are there any points you want people to pay attention to in the "Blue Forever" cover?

Matsuzawa: Especially the last part "Ah~♪" is a new approach to "Eternal Blue -BLUE FOREVER-" that brings people from various countries together beyond languages, so I hope everyone will sing along and get excited!
