Director Mamoru Hosoda's latest work "Mirai no Mirai" to feature Masaharu Fukuyama! He will play the role of a young man who is the key person in the story.

Actor and singer Masaharu Fukuyama will appear as a voice actor in Mamoru Hosoda's latest film in three years, "Mirai no Mirai," to be released on Friday, July 20, 2018. He will play the role of a young man who becomes a key person in the story.

The latest "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time," "Summer Wars," "Wolf Children: Rain and Snow," and 2015's "Bakemono no Ko," which depicted the world of humans and beasts and drew a huge response, have all been blockbusters. Mamoru Hosoda, who has created one blockbuster animation film after another and is now attracting the most attention in Japan and abroad, will release his new film "Mirai no Mirai" on July 20, 2018 (Friday).
Animation Film Screening Schedule

Summer Wars" depicts a summer of interaction between a high school student and a large family in the countryside, and "Wolf Children: Rain and Snow" depicts the independence of two children and the mother who raises them. The previous "Bakemono no ko" depicted the adventures of a lone boy and his bond with a "monster" who becomes his master. Universal themes that everyone can relate to have been projected onto the screen, sometimes realistically, sometimes fantastically and colorfully.

In "Mirai no Mirai," his first new film in three years, director Hosoda has written the original story and screenplay himself, as he did in the previous film. The film depicts the growth of the main character, a pampered 4-year-old boy named Kun-chan, who meets his younger sister Mirai, who has come from the future, through a series of first-time experiences.

It was announced this time that Masaharu Fukuyama will play the role of a young man in the film.

Director Mamoru Hosoda, who has known Masaharu Fukuyama for a long time, had been undecided about casting the role of the young man since last year. He then met Masaharu Fukuyama again and realized that the image of the young man overlapped with that of Mr. Fukuyama, which led to the decision to cast him in the role. This is the first time for Mr. Fukuyama to make a full-fledged appearance in an animated film.

I am very happy to have the opportunity to be a resident of Director Hosoda's work," said Mr. Fukuyama, "I am almost inexperienced in expressing a role with my voice, so I was embarrassed to admit that I was nervous about everything on the set, and I was inspired by everything. As always, as a fan of director Hosoda, I look forward to the completion of this film, which expresses the delicate sensitivity of children that I have forgotten as I have grown older, with great care and advanced animation techniques.
