Just before the screening! Interview with Arie Ozawa, who plays Miana in the animated film "GODZILLA: CASE MULTIPLE CITY"! Arie Ozawa plays Miana in "GODZILLA: Crusade to Multiply Cities" and is like a twin to Rena Ueda who plays Miana.
The second chapter of the "GODZILLA" animated film series, "GODZILLA: Crusade on Mobile Cities," is about to be released.
In the first chapter, Haruo and his team seemingly defeated Godzilla. However, a far more massive <GODZILLA EARTH> appeared. ...... Popular voice actress Arie Ozawa plays Miana, the mysterious girl who appeared at the end of this shocking story.
What was she conscious of in playing Miana, who is a key character in the second chapter, where the drama deepens? And which character is Ms. Ozawa herself interested in?
We asked him a few questions we wanted to know!
Godzilla is one "thing to face
─ ─ Miana made a brief appearance at the end of the first chapter, but she is finally going to start playing a full-fledged role in the second chapter, isn't she?
Ozawa: Did you hear my voice in the first chapter?
─ I could faintly hear them (laughs). (laughs) Now that the second chapter will finally be released, please tell us how you feel now.
Ozawa: Since the first chapter was credited to us, we received comments from people who do not usually watch anime that they had seen Godzilla. I think that people were interested in the film because of the title "Godzilla," and that many people saw it because it was a movie that was released in theaters. The fact that we received feedback from unexpected quarters made me realize that the power of Godzilla is truly amazing.
─ What was your impression of "Godzilla" and Godzilla itself?
Ozawa: I was not exposed to the "Godzilla" series because of my generation, so this was the first time I was able to experience Godzilla for the first time. But I knew what Godzilla looked like, so I thought it would be a scary dinosaur, but it wasn't like that at all. However, I can't really say what it was specifically. I was surprised even by myself that I didn't feel much fear. Rather than something to be feared or fought, I felt it as an existence to be faced. Considering the circumstances of its birth, I thought it was something that attracted me because it made me think about something. I felt that the animated version added human drama to the story.
─ Miana is one of the important characters in the second chapter.
Ozawa: I didn't think about that at all when I was playing her. It was difficult to create a character within the script of the second chapter, which was given to me because it was an original story, and I was concentrating on creating the role, so I didn't put too much effort into it.
─ ─ Once again, what kind of character is Miana?
Ozawa Miana is a girl from the "Futua people," a race of people who live on future Earth and protect eggs, and she and her twin, Maina, are miko (shrine maidens). And she is very athletic! She moves so lightly that I'm amazed she doesn't get blown away by the blast (laughs). I also feel that she is a different species from Haruo and other humans, and although she is in human form, she has a different culture and is of a different species.
─ ─ Looking at the film, we can see that they are capable of both fighting and learning.
Ozawa: The Hutua are a culture that does not speak, and people tend to think that humans are superior, but in fact they are a very advanced race and can quickly learn and memorize what they hear. In fact, they are a very advanced species and can learn and memorize what they hear very quickly! The fact that they pronounce it a little differently is also what makes them so adorable.
Miana and Maina recorded as if they were twins.
─ I heard that the voices were recorded prescreened (a production method in which the voices are recorded first and then the pictures are created).
Ozawa: We were given materials that gave us a sense of the world, and we saw visual boards of landscapes and single pictures, but we were still in the middle of production, so we went into the recording session wondering how big this world would be. Because there is no screen, I had to pull the distance between the characters and their emotions through my acting, and it took a lot of concentration. It was like we gathered in the studio in the morning and it was already nighttime, and because I was so focused, the time flew by so quickly.
───What kind of communication did you have with your co-stars?
Ozawa: Our characters didn't have any scenes where they had to move around, but I was thinking that everyone else seemed to be having a hard time sorting out the position their characters were in. All of the characters would know what was going on in their heads and then take the next action, so I thought that they had to use their brains a lot. Haruo talked a lot, so we just watched him.
─ Miana, played by Ozawa-san, and Maina, played by Rena Ueda, are twins.
Ozawa: The older sister, Myna, is more cautious and firm toward humans, while the younger sister, Miana, is friendly and curious about Haruo. In terms of facial expressions, Maina always has a stern expression, but I think Miana has a cute expression.
─ Maina and Miana basically communicate with each other telepathically, but how did you record the conversation?
Ozawa: (Ueda-san) and I used one microphone at a time, and we talked in unison, breathing in and out together.
The rest of the time, I was just talking with Rena Ueda about how (Maina and Miana) would feel and how they would react to each other. If I still didn't understand something, I would go to the staff and ask them. It was reassuring to know that we were able to work together on something that would have been difficult to understand if I had been working alone.
In Chapter 3, there will be more scenes where the two of us will talk and play an active role together, and we thought a lot about the changes in the characters' feelings. For those scenes, I would like you to watch Chapter 2 first.
─ ─ They are like real twins, aren't they? Since there are no pictures, was it difficult to match the acting?
Ozawa: I have never done telepathy before, so I didn't know what kind of acting I should do until I tried. I had to add the mystique of a shrine maiden to it, so I was directed to make it "a little more mystical" and "like I was talking to her" while recording.
─ On the other hand, when you speak aloud, you must be very serious, right?
Ozawa That's right. I think the gap between telepathic speech and spoken words is what makes it so appealing. It was really cute when she spoke aloud. In the second chapter, there are two scenes of solid telepathy and cute talking, so I think that was good. As for the acting plan, I went to ask (the staff) about it with Mr. Ueda.
My favorite is Martin, who is fun to listen to!
─ Who is the character that you are interested in?
Ozawa: I have various interests in each character, but of course Haruo is wonderful. I think Haruo is a dependable protagonist who looks around him, acts with him, and leads the way. Also, he has no nay-sayers. I think everyone panics or becomes self-centered because they are human, but Haruo is not like that at all. He always thinks about how to work with others, and I thought that was great.
─ ─ Then, who is your favorite character?
Ozawa: Personally, I think I like Martin. Even in the midst of battle, he is always saying things like, "There is this! There's this culture! I want to research it! I think he is honest about his own curiosity, and I think someone like Martin is a great help to me. He helps me to learn more about the worldview, and he also helps to explain things to me by asking questions along with the viewers. I also thought it was fun to listen to him talk about various things with interest.
Also, as I felt in the first chapter, I feel that Metfies has a mysterious receptiveness and charm that draws people in and makes them listen to her. I think it was also due to Takahiro Sakurai's voice. He speaks at a very close distance, but he doesn't overcrowd the personal space, which is wonderful. That's why Haruo is always overheard (laughs).
───What are the highlights of the second chapter?
Ozawa: As a girl, I get excited when I think about Yuko's feelings. Also, there were many scenes in which Haruo was pushed around and influenced by the characters around him, so I think that the expressions he shows when he is in a situation he can't afford to be in, and his charm as a human being in a more hopeless situation shines through more than before.
─ ─ Finally, do you have any comments for the fans?
Ozawa: My impression of the second chapter is that the drama between Haruo and the people around him and their feelings are the highlights. As I mentioned earlier, as a woman, I am very intrigued by Yuko's feelings. The second chapter is impressive because of the change in Yuko's feelings toward Haruo and the climactic scene after the battle with the big Godzilla (Godzilla Earth).
