Detroit: Become Human" Unveils Spin-Off Movie "Tokyo: Become Human" Life Episode! Unlock Another Choice to "Save" the Androids
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SEE) has released the spin-off movie "Tokyo: Become Human" Life Arc from "Detroit: Become Human" for PS4, scheduled for release on Friday, May 25, 2018.
Detroit: Become Human" is a spin-off movie of "Tokyo: Become Human" by French game developer Quantic Dream, creators of high-quality adventure games such as "Heavy Rain" (PS4/PS3) and "Beyond: Two Souls" (PS4/PS3). This is the latest title from French game maker Quantic Dream.
The story takes place in Detroit in the year 2038, where "androids" have developed AI and robotics that have given them intelligence and appearance beyond that of humans. While society enjoys unprecedented affluence, the rising unemployment rate and widening disparity between the rich and poor have increased anti-android sentiment. Machines that act on their own initiative, as if they were human beings. Is it a life or a thing? Through androids, what is a human being? What is life? Players will be confronted with these questions again and again through the three androids, "Kara," "Connor," and "Marcus.
In this "open scenario adventure," the story changes dramatically depending on the player's actions and choices. Decisions, statements, and actions taken by the player in the story will change the situation, and have a significant impact on the development and ending of the story itself.
By actively making a series of choices, players will choose the fates of various characters and the fate of the world of humans and androids. Although set in the near future, the game's human themes are also relevant to today's world, allowing players to enjoy an unprecedentedly realistic and "personal" storytelling experience while being emotionally moved by the story.
Tokyo: Become Human" "Life Arc", which was released this time, is a counterpart to "Tokyo: Become Human" "Mono Arc" (released on Wednesday, May 16), which depicted androids being treated as objects and "not to be saved", and is another "choice". The "Mono Arc" was released on May 16 (Wed.). When the "Mono-Arch" was released, there were many people on SNS who said they wanted to save the android and wanted to see the scene where the android is saved, which led to the release of the "Life-Arch".
Various reviews on the Internet were also developed, such as "How will androids be treated in the future?" and "It makes me think about whether that choice is the right one. The coexistence of humans and androids will come sooner or later. When androids, which are supposed to be emotionless, show emotions like people, will you treat them as people? Or will you treat them as objects? Please compare "Life" and "Object" and think about it.

In addition, special interviews with Moka Hoshi, who plays the role of the android librarian, Ayumi Mochizuki, who plays Matsushima, a high school student, and JIRO, a special makeup artist, have also arrived, so we will introduce them as well.
<Special Interviews
Interview with Moka Hozhi, who plays the role of an android librarian
Q. What were you careful about when playing the role of an android?
A. I tried to look as lifeless as possible. When I smiled, I lifted the corners of my mouth and squinted my eyes, moved my face partially, blinked as little as possible, and was careful about the way I walked.
Q. What was your honest impression when you were offered the role of an android?
A. I thought it would be interesting and difficult at the same time. I felt that it would be difficult to play the role of a person who has feelings, and to play the role of a person who does not have feelings, and in the midst of that, develop feelings.
Q. Was there any performance or scene that the director ordered that was difficult for you?
A. The director asked me to show in the final scene that the librarian has feelings and hides them from the audience at the end of the story when she chooses not to save him. It was difficult because I had to make that sense of despair happen more deeply in me and convey it to the audience in a short period of time as the truth.
Interview with Ayumu Mochizuki, who plays Matsushima, a high school student
Q. You played a role in a story that diverges depending on the choices one makes.
A. I think I would choose "save". In playing Matsushima, I felt that the time I spent with the android was not a bad thing, but rather a pleasant place to be. I felt that he wanted to cherish those memories as his own, and I sympathize with his choice to "save" the android because it looks like a person to him.
Q. What do you want viewers to feel?
A. To be honest, I think androids are "objects. But what will they do if that thing appeals to them? Like Matsushima, its choice may change the future drastically. Through this story, I would be happy if you could think about one such choice, such as what I would do at this time.
Interview with JIRO, special makeup artist
Q. What did you focus on to make the character look like an android?
A. To make the skin look androgynous, I used a cream with a green pigment in it to remove redness, and then applied a foundation with good coverage to the face, neck, and ears to hide blood vessels and unevenness and even out the skin. To give the skin an artificial look, a layer of pearl powder was applied to the entire face, neck, and ears, with an extra layer of highlights to emphasize reflections not found in human skin. The hairline was painted with an airbrush to give the appearance of an artificial, sharp hairline, and the eyebrows and frown lines were straightened to create an inorganic image. For the eyes, we used black colored contacts with inconspicuous irises to create emotionless eyes.
