Isekai Izakaya - Izakaya Nobu in the Ancient Capital of Aethelia - Episode 7: Bonito Tataki is Good, but so are Delicacies!

Isekai Izakaya: Izakaya Nobu in the Ancient Capital of Aethelia" (hereafter "Nobu") is a work based on the recently popular theme of otherworldly things and food. The owner of "Izakaya Nobu" is located on a desolate street in Kyoto, but somehow the front entrance of the restaurant is connected to the medieval European-style otherworldly city of Aethelia, the ancient capital of Japan. Nobuyuki Yazawa, the proprietor, and Shinobu Senke, a waiter, run the restaurant for the residents of this other world.

People from all walks of life, including guards, craftsmen, merchants, and aristocrats, come to "Nobu" to relieve their fatigue of the day with good sake and snacks....... The story depicts a scene similar to that of Japanese businessmen drinking at an izakaya.

When they arrive, "Nobu" is open for business. Edvin says, "That's odd," and Nikolaus says, "Was it a false alarm?" but they decided to go inside anyway.

Shinobu showed them where to sit, and they went in for a drink, but Nikolaus was drinking "Triaesnama," and Edvin, who was making his first appearance, was drinking "Lesh" from the very beginning? Nikolaus seemed to have almost forgotten why he had come to Nobu because of the deliciousness of Otooshi's "bonito tataki" and "triaeznama. In the book, the origin of "bonito tataki" (*there are various theories) was mentioned, and I remember that in a book I read long ago, it was about grilling the surface to kill parasites under the skin, but it is interesting that there are various theories when you look it up.

Nikolaus tells him that he is not a customer today, but on a mission. He asks, "Did any thieves enter this restaurant today?" Shinobu and Taisho suddenly get impatient when he says. Nikolaus continues, "If you lie in front of the deacon, you might get in trouble later on," and Shinobu, who had been very tight-lipped, begins to tell the story. The thief was Aefa (CV: Misaki Hisano), who entered the store when the door was open and tried to steal something that Taisho was using, but hesitated and hid when Shinobu-chan came in. Shinobu-chan notices something unusual in the store and exclaims, "I know there is someone in there, I know there is someone in there," and Eifa gives up and wants to atone for her crime, but Nikolaus says, "But there is no guarantee that he won't steal from another store if we let him go. To this, Shinobu replied, "I can guarantee that. I have asked Aefa-chan to do the dishes at this restaurant. It's getting harder and harder for me to serve and wash dishes by myself these days," she concludes, and the conversation turns abruptly from thieves to the sudden increase in the number of employees at Nobu.

Edvin begins drinking "Lesh" after the thief problem is solved and the matter is settled. However, Nikolaus presses him, saying, "I thought we were only allowed to eat roughage in the church until the spring equinox. But then Shinobu-chan reveals that Edvin is a regular at Nobu. No wonder he has been drinking "Lesh" from the beginning. Nikolaus, who picks up the "Sake-Thief," an o-toshi for Edvin, is surprised by the smell of the sea, but he feels that he can enjoy the taste more by drinking the "leche" after eating it. Watching "Nobu" recently, I can't help but think that his reaction when he eats is like that of a certain "Mr. ●ko.

Shinobu then brings over Edvin's usual snacks: heshiko (salted mackerel pickled in brine) and mamakari (pickled small fish). Edvin must be quite a drinker, as he loves "sakadori" and other delicacies.
Many delicacies have unique flavors, and some are not to everyone's liking. Many of them are suitable as side dishes or snacks, but I would like to try "Matsumaezuke", "Mentaiko", and "Sake-Tobori" with sake that I happened to buy.

In the "Nobu + PLUS" section, which is the live-action part of the second half of the program, cookery researcher Ryuta Kijimari actually makes the dishes that appeared in the main program by arranging them. This time it is "Fried bonito with rare sauce" that even those who don't like raw fish can enjoy. Although it is tempting to put sauce on fried fish, the dish introduced this time looks delicious with wasabi and soy sauce.

Since spring and summer are the season of "hatsu-gatsuo" (the first bonito), we would like to eat "bonito tataki" at an izakaya (Japanese style bar) to enjoy the first bonito of the summer. However, when eating at izakaya (Japanese-style pubs), you will always be served with "ponzu (Japanese citrus juice)," but I sometimes think it is a little too acidic, so I prefer it with sashimi soy sauce and condiments such as ginger and myoga. However, Mr. Cho's seasoned performance as Edvin this time is one of the best I've ever seen. If you haven't watched it yet, please do so while sipping sake.
