First TV appearance and first singing! XAI is a hot newcomer who sings the theme song of Anigoji! Interview with XAI, who will appear on the May 31 broadcast of "Ani☆Ste!
Singer XAI, who sings the theme song for the animated film "GODZILLA" (a.k.a. "Anigoji"), will appear on the May 31 studio LIVE episode of "Ani☆Ste," a ranking music program dedicated to anime songs that airs every Thursday at 10:00 p.m. on TOKYO MX1.
XAI will appear on the program with "THE SKY FALLS," the theme song for the animated film "GODZILLA: Crusade on Mobile Cities," which is currently in theaters nationwide to rave reviews! This was her first time to sing on TV. We asked XAI, who just finished such a memorable performance, about her impressions of the recording.
─ This "Ani-STE" was XAI's first time singing on TV, how was the recording?
XAI I tried to focus on delivering the song to the audience, but I was more nervous than I thought I would be at ...... (laughs).
But I was able to put my feelings into the song and sing it, so I hope that the feelings depicted in "THE SKY FALLS" were conveyed to the audience.
─ The costumes, which looked like Japanese kimonos with solid decorations, were also distinctive.
XAI (THE SKY FALLS is the theme song of "GODZILLA") "GODZILLA" has a motif of the near future, so the costumes are cool and beautiful with that image. I also let it flutter when I sing, so I hope you can see that in the broadcast.
─ Now then, please tell us about the song "THE SKY FALLS," which is the theme song for the movie "GODZILLA: CASE MOVIE" that is currently in theaters.
XAI "THE SKY FALLS" was produced by Masayuki Nakano of BOOM BOOM SATELLITES, following the theme song "WHITE OUT" of "GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters," the first chapter of the animated film series "GODZILLA" ("Anigoji"). The previous song "WHITE OUT" was produced by Mr. Masayuki Nakano of Boom Boom Satellites.
The previous song "WHITE OUT" was a song that cherished the grand world view of Anigoji. It was a love song that encompassed the feeling of people meeting each other.
This time, "THE SKY FALLS" is a song about the passionate lives of each of the characters in Anigoji that you can't take your eyes off of. The lyrics "I won't let you be alone" and "Cross this sky," the song tries to deliver such an earnest message. So I sing the song as if I am a warrior fighting together with them.
─ Compared to "WHITE OUT," the song has a stronger message. Were you able to easily change your singing style to fit the image of the song?
XAI I was very nervous, but I was not anxious because Mr. Nakano gave me this song. I really felt like I could sing the song with all my might.
─ You made your debut with "WHITE OUT" and "THE SKY FALLS" is your second album, so have you gotten used to being an artist?
XAI (laughs). I was very nervous during the recording of "THE SKY FALLS", and rather than getting used to it, I think I still have a long way to go as an artist, so I would like to sharpen my senses even more. As the message of "THE SKY FALLS" says, I want to be the kind of person who can deliver such messages (through music) as "I won't let you be alone".
─ ─ Could you also talk about the animated film "GODZILLA: CASE MULTIPLE CITY"?
XAI I think the highlight of "GODZILLA" is how each one of us, including (the main character) Haruo, lives in the midst of despair and how we live.
I think that in a normal life, the feeling of "I am alive right now" is something you don't get very often. GODZILLA: CASE MULTIPLE CITY" is a film that reminds us of that feeling once again when we see it. Of course the images are beautiful, but I hope you will feel the emotions that well up when you see the film.
THE SKY FALL" will be played at the end of the film, so I would be happy if you could listen to it while feeling that way.
─ Finally, XAI-san is also a former auditionee for Toho's "Cinderella," which is inseparably linked to the "Godzilla" series and has been performed by Yasuko Sawaguchi, Masami Nagasawa, and others in the past. What does "Godzilla" mean to you?
XAI As you say, "Godzilla" is a work with which all the Toho Cinderellas have been involved for a long time, and I think there is a deep bond between them. So, in that sense, I want to live up to the name.
From now on in my life as an artist and as a person, I want to firmly accept the way of life of the characters in the work "GODZILLA: Cessation Mobile Multiplication City. I believe that the experience of singing the theme song for this work will be an important and meaningful one for me.
Thank you very much for your time today!
