Collaborative tabi socks for "Sonic the Hedgehog" to go on sale in early August! SEGA Games and Ritsumeikan University Industry-Academia Collaboration Project

As part of an industry-academia collaboration project, SEGA Games and Ritsumeikan University's College of Image Arts and Sciences will launch "Takasago Tabi Shoes with Aloha Soles SONIC×SOU/SOU" and "Tabi Shoes Underwear (Regular Length)" in collaboration with the game character "Sonic the Hedgehog" from the brand "SOU・SOU" developed by Wakabayashi Co. SONIC×SOU/SOU" will go on sale in early August 2018.

This industry-academia collaboration project was initiated by Ritsumeikan University's College of Imaging Arts and Sciences, whose mission is to develop human resources with a "producer mindset" capable of developing visual images from a comprehensive perspective based on art, business, and technology, as part of its coursework with Sega Games.

Under the theme of "Promoting the game character 'Sonic the Hedgehog' with ideas from university students," students from the Faculty of Visual Arts at Ritsumeikan University came up with a plan that focused on the traditional Japanese footwear, tabi (split-toed socks). In addition to the fresh ideas that only students can come up with, the "Sonic" series' first collaborative Tabi Shoes will be released by the Kyoto-based brand "SOU・SOU," which endorsed the content of the project that focused on the location of Ritsumeikan University. Pre-order sales will begin on July 19 (Thu) at the "SOU・SOU net shop.

Students from the same department will also be in charge of product promotion measures. A promotional video featuring current students will be released, and the official character of the department, "Ritz Eizo (a.k.a. Eizo-kun)," will tweet a story featuring Sonic and the streets of Kyoto on his Twitter account ( # ) to promote the product launch.
