Anime and Railroads - Two of Japan's Pride Cultures at a Glance! Fastest report on the "Anime and Railroads Exhibition" starting July 13!
The "Ani-Te and Railroads Exhibition" will be held at the Tokyo Anime Center in DNP Plaza from July 13 (Fri.) to August 19 (Sun.).
This exhibition allows visitors to experience in real life the railroad and anime cultures that have given people dreams and supported local communities. Both anime and railroad fans will enjoy depictions and dioramas of the trains that appear in the anime, as well as actual exhibits made with the cooperation of railroad companies.
According to Yohei Toyoda of Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. who was involved in this exhibition, "Railroads in anime, two of Japan's proudest cultures that have walked in completely different contexts, each have their own desire to give people dreams, enrich people, and energize local communities, which inevitably intersect and lead to the depiction of railroads in anime. The magazine "Anime and Railroads" published by Tenmujin is a good representation of these ideas, and we would like to use our exhibition facilities to convey the good points of anime and railroads. This project was started because we wanted to convey the good points of anime and railroads not only through the magazine, but also through our exhibition facilities," he said.
The "Akiba Research Institute" editorial department visited the venue ahead of the others to get a sneak peek of the event! Let's bring you a glimpse of the event with photos!
Speaking of railroads and anime, "The Galaxy Express 999" is one of the most popular anime! So, we also have a comment from Mr. Leiji Matsumoto.
The third episode of "Laughshelf NEW," which deals with the 583 series, is delved into with valuable materials and dioramas.
The book also includes a story about the "Love Live! Sunshine! and Izu Hakone Railway, as well as an exhibition of HPT Birthday Headmark designs.
The entire process of the depiction of the railroad from "ISLAND," which is currently being broadcast, will be on display, as well as the actual script.
The "Mobile Police Patlabor" movie "Patlabor 2" features the "Phantom Shimbashi Station," which is explained with a route map!
Locations of actual railroad crossings that appeared in the "Railroad Crossing Time" anime are introduced with maps and scene photos! In addition, the original anime "Chichibude Buchi" by Seibu Railway introduces sacred places and railroad depictions along the Seibu Railway lines that appear in the work.
In the "In This Corner of the World" corner, the powerful "Hiroshima Station" and "Kure Station" are on display! Large-scale storyboards of Hiroshima and Kure stations are on display.
In addition, there is an exhibition corner of KATO, a model railroad manufacturer, and an exhibit of illustrations depicting railroads by popular creators. There will also be railway-related exhibits.
A collaboration café will also be held on the first floor of DNP Plaza. Original headmark latte art (with coaster of the same pattern!) ) and railway-related books will be on sale.
This is a special exhibition where you can discover the unexpectedly close relationship between railroads and anime, and also find plenty of information on sacred places related to railroads. Why not include it in your summer vacation plans?
