TV anime "Dies irae" presents a giant guillotine to viewers! Event report on the guillotine handover event by Yui Sakakibara

An unprecedented "guillotine handover event" was held to present guillotines that appeared in the TV anime "Dies irae," which aired episodes 0-11 from October 2017 and the climax episodes 12-17 in July 2018 on "AbemaTV.

Dies irae" is a "bizarre battle adventure game" created by PC game maker LIGHT. In 2015, a crowdfunding campaign was launched to support the anime project. The amount of support exceeded 90 million yen in two months and became a big topic of conversation.

The TV anime "Dies irae" aired episodes 0-11 from October 2017, and episodes 12-17, the climax of the series, were distributed on "AbemaTV" in July 2018. An unprecedented "guillotine handover event" was recently held, where the guillotine that appeared in the work was given away as a gift.

This guillotine is a reproduction of the one that appears in the early part of the story. It has been displayed at various events and has been the topic of conversation, with the blade part being equipped with a mechanism that elevates and lowers, and an event where people could actually put their heads on the shackles to experience the feeling of execution.
（The blade is made of a soft urethane material and is designed with safety in mind so that even if the blade is dropped, it will not hit the neck.)

AbemaTV" ran a campaign to coincide with the start of distribution of this work last October, offering a guillotine and a hand-off by Yui Sakakibara, who plays Marie, the heroine of this work, to one viewer. This time, the handover event was held at a certain location in Tokyo.

The winner, Ms. K, told us that since the prize was a very large object measuring 2.5 meters in height, when she was notified that she had won the prize, she was asked if she was sure she could receive it. I decided to accept the guillotine because I had an acquaintance who is a fan of "Dies irae" and could place it there.

As for his memories of the guillotine, Sakakibara said that when he first heard that they were making the guillotine, he thought, "Honestly, I'm an idiot (laugh)," but he recalled, "I think people who had never heard of 'Dies irae' became interested in it because of the guillotine.
He also said, "I didn't think you would be so active. You did a great job! and praised the guillotine for its labor.

Next, Mr. Sakakibara performed the execution ceremony. Mr. Sakakibara has executed more than 100 people using the guillotine at events in the past, but this was the first time for Mr. K to be executed directly by Mr. Sakakibara, making it a memorable execution.

At the end of the event, Mr. Sakakibara ended the handover session wishing that the guillotine would meet its new owner again and looking forward to its future activities as it departs for its new owner.
