Akiba Research Institute's Editor A gives a quick review! Here are the 10 summer 2018 anime you must watch!
The 2018 summer anime are almost all out, but which ones are you into?
Before the start of the broadcast, there seemed to be a lack of standouts that really stood out. I was under the impression that the summer 2018 anime lacked a highlight. ...... I was under the impression that the 2018 summer anime lacked any real standouts. However, when I opened the door, I was surprised to find that all of the works were well-produced and many of them were "interesting to watch".
There were some that I thought were "just a daily life type but turned out to be a gag with full-blown facial expressions," "thought to be a youth club activity but turned out to be full-blown undertones," "thought to be a moe club activity but turned out to be a burning club activity," "thought to be an idol activity but turned out to be a polemic," "thought to be SAO but turned out to be Anohana," and so on. ...... is full of so-called "works that are different from what I expected," and I am surprised every day by the gap between what they look like and what they are.
The first episode of this season's anime has just aired, so Akiba Research Institute's Editor A took a quick look at the first episode. This time, "Akiba Research Institute" editor A took a quick look at the first episode and selected 10 works that caught our attention.
Asobi Asobase
Here is an anime that "seemed to be a gentle, everyday type of anime, but turned out to be a gag with full-blown facial expressions.
This work is the twin of "Chio-chan's Way to School" as a high school girls' gag, but we gave this one the top spot because of the excessive facial gags that appear here and there, the gap between the loose-fitting OP and the core metal-style ED, and the fact that you can't let your guard down.
Guranburu
This is a "youth club activity story," but it is full of undertones. I was expecting an "Amanchu"-style "the sea is beautiful" or "sweet and sour youth between a man and a woman" kind of film, but it started with naked macho men drinking (with a black circle around their crotches to correct them)!
The director is Shinji Takamatsu. Oh, that's right. I should have suspected it when he was credited as the director (laugh). So, the gags are very funny, reminiscent of the "Gintama" series!
You can enjoy it with an empty head.
Also, from a voice geek's point of view, the sister-brother collaboration of Yuma Uchida and Mare Uchida is also a key point. Watch out for their future collaboration.
Girls☆Geki Revue Starlight
This is a two-layered content that links musicals and animation. Watching the anime after seeing the musical that preceded the show, you can see the expressions of the cast beyond the characters, giving the show a strange three-dimensional feel.
The action scenes are well worth watching. I think that this work is at a very high level as a school story, an idol story (not quite the same thing), and an action story.
The director of this film, Tomohiro Furukawa, has often worked with Kunihiko Ikuhara, the director of "Revolutionary Girl Utena," "Rinru Ping Drum," and "Urikuma Arashi," and it can be said that he is a creator who has inherited Ikuhara's style in a very strong way. This may be one of the reasons why the visuals are so meaningful and impactful.
The detailed direction is also brilliant, making this a work that is recommended to be viewed in a round-about way.
However, according to a tweet from the president of the production company, Kinema Citrus, the situation at the site seems to be quite critical. ...... We hope that the series will not run out of steam in the middle of the series.
Midnight! Tensai Bakabon
Following "Osomatsu-san" comes a remake of Fujio Akatsuka's work!
While "Osomatsu-san" was very well received with a lineup that appealed strongly to voice actor fans, this is more of a fundamentalist, royal road remake of Fujio Akatsuka's works. This film is more of a royal remake based on Fujio Akatsuka's fundamentalism. Slapstick gags burst forth from the first episode, centering on Bakabon no Papa.
Personally, I laughed at the scene where YOSHIKI appeared. Yes, "Bakabon" originally did this kind of current affairs and entertainment material as well. The staff's love for Akatsuka is clearly evident in the mix of the usual developments, such as the father becoming a handsome boy (CV: Jun Fukuyama), making Bakabon into six children, trying to make Hajime-chan into a criminal, and then being upset with the mother for doing so. In a word, "You get it, don't you? In a word, "You know what you are doing!
It will inevitably be compared to the preceding "Osomatsu-san," but it is clear that the direction they are aiming for is different. We hope that this work will express Akatsuka-ism in a style that is unique to this work.
Zoids Wild
The latest work after 12 years in the "Zoids" series, which is sure to appeal to the generation that spent their boyhood in the early 2000s, is a buddy story between humans and the mechanical life form Zoids. It depicts the battles and growth of the main characters, Arashi and Wild Riger, centered on the battle against the empire that controls the people and the activities of hunters searching for treasures.
First of all, the coolness of the Zoids depicted in CG is a must-see! The action depiction of each Zoids' appeal is so appealing that you will want to run straight to the toy store and pick up a kit.
The characters are all straightforward and pleasant, just like a children's anime. In any case, the work is easy to understand, hot, and exciting.
Tenro Sirius the Jaeger
This is a highly anticipated new work by P.A.WORKS. This work is a battle action story set in Japan in the early Showa period, depicting a battle between vampires and humans. The retro atmosphere and the somewhat decadent feel of the era make this work a must for those who love it.
A group of specialists called "hunters" fight against vampires. The unique members of the group are all unique, and the film is expected to be an ensemble drama and a team effort. P.A. WORKS is well known for its beautifully rendered images, and the power of the action scenes is quite impressive. This is a work that you will want to sit back and enjoy.
High Score Girl
After all that happened, the anime adaptation finally came to fruition! That alone is enough to give it a standing ovation.
The content is a sweet and sour coming-of-age drama about boys and girls that takes place in a game arcade in the 90s. The main point to note is that "real game screens and sounds are used. Arcade games such as "Street Fighter II," "Splatterhouse," and "Final Fight" appear one after another, which are a hit with people in their mid-80s and older (the game videos used in the anime were shot by Mr. Ikeda, the manager of the game center "Mikado" in Takadanobaba, and other regulars). (Incidentally, the game videos used in the anime were shot by Mr. Ikeda, manager of the game center "Mikado" in Takadanobaba, and other regular players.)
) Along with these scenes, the video depicts nostalgic scenes seen in many parts of Japan, such as coins lined up in a cabinet waiting for their turn to play, shouting matches over a game table, and harassment by an old lady at a candy store, which made me grin again.
In the original story, Mr. Ono does not have a single line, but he is played by Arts Vision's new face, Sayumi Suzushiro. She plays the role of Ms. Ono with her nasal breaths and inarticulate grunts, and her joy, anger, sorrow, and joy are beautifully portrayed.
It will be interesting to see how much of the original story will be reproduced in the anime version, but we hope that the high school version will take its time in depicting the story.
Hataraku Cell
So much for anthropomorphism! But when you open the lid, it turns out to be a very informative anime, somewhat reminiscent of the old learning manga. I think it was the first episode that gave us a good understanding of how the human body works and how cells function.
When the pneumococcus bacteria invades the human body and causes the infected person to become ill and die, the expression "This world is going to collapse! I was impressed with the way he described it as "This world is going to collapse!
The battle between the Streptococcus pneumoniae and the white blood cells is so dynamic that it is hard to believe that this is an animated comedy, and the power of the Streptococcus pneumoniae's tentacle attack is quite impressive. Action supervisor Kenta Mimuro is an action-oriented animator who also demonstrated his skills in "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders" and "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamonds Will Break". A comical anthropomorphic cell story and flashy action scenes. It is a work that is twice as good as the first.
Hanebado!
This is a story about badminton club activities by high school girls! So, I imagined it to be a cackle-worthy story, but it turned out to be a more serious and realistic human drama than I had imagined.
The story begins with a match between Nagisa Aragaki, who is obsessed with winning, and Ayano Hasaki, who is overwhelmingly good at badminton but avoids the sport. The story, which began with a match between the two, has a heavy air from the start.
What is noteworthy is the description of the match, which even makes the muscles seem to be moving. It is as if the viewer is really watching a badminton match.
You cannot take your eyes off the story of high school girls who put their adolescence into competition.
Back Street Girls Gokudorsu
Back Street Girls is a story about a group of high school girls who are on the verge of becoming young idols.
Three gangsters who made a mistake undergo a sex change and plastic surgery to make up for it, and debut as an idol group! The story is suddenly so crazy that it is almost impossible to believe it.
The picture is as still as a mountain. The credits show that only one person did the original drawings, a rare energy-saving style nowadays. Is it the power of the direction and the script that makes the story come alive so strongly? Or is it the fact that an impressive picture is all that is needed to make an animation work, even if there is little movement? Well, it could be said that this is the cutting edge of limited animation, a uniquely Japanese form of animation expression.
The structure of short episodes also contributes to the good tempo of this work.
The female voice actors who play the three main characters, Gokudorsu, are also excellent. The gap between the cute voices and the conversations between the three old men is hilarious and makes me laugh.
The fact that there are anime that can be enjoyed with a relaxed mind like this is one of the great things about this season.
So that's how I chose the 10 works.
As a runner-up, I would also like to mention "Subaru of the Seven Stars," which I thought was SAO but turned out to be Anohana.
In truth, there were many other interesting works besides those listed here, and I was quite troubled by the selection process.
I will continue to enjoy watching the 2018 summer anime with a happy scream.
