Interview] Three songs with lyrics by Yuho Iwasato give us a sense of the depth of Shino Shimoji, 2nd single "That's not me. Second single "That's not who I am!
Voice actress Shimoji Shino will release her second single "That's not me," her first in a year and nine months. This song is the ending theme of the TV anime "Sunoharasou no janitor-san". This song is the ending theme song for the TV anime "Sunoharasou no janitor-san. While it is the theme song of the work that depicts the daily life of a boy surrounded by older women, the song has a deep theme. A feature of this single is that Yuho Iwasato wrote the lyrics for all three songs, including the coupling song. Some of the songs were written about Shimoji Shino herself, giving the single a sense of her personality.
The song "That's not me." was able to sing the lyrics in sympathy with the song!
─ ─ In a sense, "Sunoharasou no janitor-san" is like a dream, isn't it?
Shimoji: The catch copy of the book is "A gift for all pampered children," and I heard that the original author, Neko-Ume-sensei, said, "Aki doesn't need to grow up. I thought it was true that "pampering" is just like that. When I hear Satrina's (Rina Sato) voice, I also think, "Oh, it's soothing" (laughs). Her receptiveness is amazing.
─ ─ The ending theme of the work is "That's not me. I felt that this song depicts the strong will of a boy.
Shimoji: When I received the lyrics from Ms. Yuho Iwasato, I thought that it was not only about Aki's feelings toward the janitor, but also about feelings that everyone has. I think everyone has a certain type of person they want to be, but it is not so easy to reach the ideal they have set so high. As the title suggests, there are times when I feel like, "That's not me, that's not me," so I wanted to sing the song with that feeling in mind.
─ ─ Indeed, the lyrics are applicable to both men and women.
Shimoji: As expected of Ms. Iwasato! I thought, "I'm really proud of you! I was expecting this since I received the lyrics after reading the original work. The lyrics are about Aki's feelings, but unlike the warm and soft world of "Sunoharasou," the lyrics express a darker side of his mind.
─ ─ The hard words that appear from time to time have a great impact, don't they? For example, "To the drift of undifferentiation" or "To the extreme proof".
Shimoji: That's right. I thought that the sudden inclusion of hard words made the lyrics more internal.
─ ─ When I listen to the ending theme after the main anime ends in a pleasant, lighthearted way, I think, "Oh, it's so deep. It seems to be a song that stimulates the work.
Shimoji: I would be happy if the gap between the work and the song had a synergistic effect. Ai Nakajima's opening theme "Bitter Sweet Harmony" is a soft song from the caretaker's point of view. On the other hand, my song is sung from Aki's point of view, which I thought was a nice contrast.
─ I thought it contrasted beautifully with the opening theme. Moreover, "That's not me. has a strong rhythm and is quite light for an ending song, isn't it?
Shimoji: This song, composed by Yusuke Shirato, was chosen from among several candidates. Even though it had the sharpest impression among the candidate songs, there was something wetty and shadowy about it, and I liked that. I thought of the color "blue" and the image of dawn and weather rain from this song.
─ ─ So, in the artist photo, you are wearing a blue outfit and holding an umbrella. It is raining, and the shot has a wet feel to it.
Shimoji: I didn't shoot for the rain, it just happened. However, I think that the rain gave the photo an atmosphere that is familiar to the worries and shadows of the adolescent mind. Because of this, it became one of my favorite photos.
─ ─ It is an artist photo for a single that will be released in August, and the song is not about rain in particular, so I was wondering why it was raining in the arphoto, but after hearing what you just said, I understand.
Shimoji: The photos taken for this single, including the jacket photo, have a short-film-like atmosphere and tell a story of being left alone. I think this overlaps with Aki's image of being alone and troubled.
