Battle Royale in "Super Mario! Super Mario Bros. 35" play impressions that will keep you running until you are the last man standing!

The battle royale game " Super Mario Bros. 35 " is being distributed from October 1, 2020 to Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Anyone who subscribes to the paid service Nintendo Switch Online can play. This article provides play impressions of the game!

In this so-called battle royale game, up to 35 players simultaneously challenge the "Super Mario Bros." course, defeating enemies to gain time (the time limit varies depending on the type of enemy and how they are defeated) until the last player is left standing. If the player makes a mistake, such as hitting an enemy or falling into a hole, or if the time limit reaches zero, he or she is eliminated from the game.

The only controls required are up/down, left/right movement, jumping with the B button, and dashing with the Y button. Some of the controls can be changed on the settings screen. In addition, a "Departure" system has been introduced to send enemies you have defeated to specific players, so the game is not just about playing the course, but also includes battle royale-like elements.

Before a battle, players first select one of their favorite courses. All courses to be played during the battle are chosen by the participating players. As you battle and clear new courses, the number of courses you can choose from will increase, and eventually you will be able to play all the courses from 1-1 to 8-4 that were included in "Super Mario Bros.

Coins earned from battles can be kept for yourself. In exchange for the coins, you can choose your power-up state at the start of the match.

In fact, the battle begins with the selection of the course. If you choose the easy 1-1 course, you are less likely to make a mistake, but so are your rivals. The fewer mistakes you make, the longer the battle lasts, and the remaining players may continue to challenge the course until the time limit runs out.

So, why not choose a difficult course? The chances that your rivals will make mistakes will increase, and the enemies we can send our way will be stronger. However, the risk falls on you as well. If you try to induce your opponent to make a mistake and then drop out yourself, it will be meaningless. It is safe to choose an easy course at first, and then choose a difficult one when you get used to it.

One of the power-up items is the Fire Flower. When you get it, "Mario" becomes "Fire Mario," and you can use the Y button to fire a fireball. It can kill enemies at a distance, but the time gained is only one count. If you step on it, the count increases by two or more, so if the enemy is weak, you want to step on it as much as possible to defeat it.

The "Departure" system is a particularly interesting part of the game. While you are trying to complete the course, Krivo and Sawtooth come forward in a huge parade, Bowser appears at 1-1, and a horde of Gesso swarms overtake the land stage. The course structure, which would be impossible considering the balance of the game, is interesting not only for its difficulty but also for its disproportionality. I laughed when I saw two Bowser in the first round.

The game allows players to use multiple strategies for "Departure," such as "Pinch Aiming," which targets enemies with limited time, "Coin Aiming," which concentrates on blocking opponents with many coins, and "Counter Aiming," which counterattacks rivals who are targeting you.

In addition, cribs and sawtooths that just walk up are easily defeated, and there is a high possibility that sending them to rivals will only increase the time limit. Especially in one-on-one battles, the opponents are tough, so it may be effective to send in only the troublesome enemies, such as Hammer Bros. and Bowser, after defeating them.

Special battles with special rules

While there is a battle mode for up to 35 players, this title also includes a mode called "Special Battle. In this mode, players can enjoy special rules not found in the normal mode, such as the appearance of a large number of powerful enemies such as Jugem and Hammer Bros, or the limited appearance of specific courses. Battles often develop much more quickly than usual, making it ideal for those who want to play quickly. Special battles are only available for a limited time. Be sure to check the time in the game to make sure you don't miss it.

Enemies sent by rivals are displayed in a paler color than normal types.

Ease of play that symbolizes this title

Battle Royale-type games are vital to the number of players, and cannot be played by a single player. Therefore, it is important to make the game easy to play and to have many people playing. The "Super Mario Bros." series, on which this game is based, is the starting point for later "Super Mario" games such as "New Super Mario Bros. The simple controls, which require only moving and jumping, make the game easy to learn and are a good match for the Battle Royale series. It is also nice to know that once you have played a course, you can practice it in the "Course Training" section.

The only disappointment is that this is a limited edition that can only be played until March 2021. Although it is limited, this is a rare opportunity to play Battle Royale with "Mario," so if you are interested, please give it a try.
