Let's customize a super realistic boarding robot in your own way! I made "MODEROID 1/35 General-purpose Work Exoframe (Gray)"! Taiyuki's Weekend Plastic Modeling Vol. 23

When you are a working adult, you tend to have a lot of plastic models piled up in your busy life. ...... In this series, Yasuyuki Tai, a voice actor who loves robots and plastic models, takes on the challenge of building plastic models on your behalf!

The concept is "even busy working people can make it this far on their weekends off. There are only two rules: bare bones assembly and a production period of one to two days! If you read this series, you will surely find the plastic model you want to build.

So, "Weekend Plastic Model Making by Voice Actor Taiyuki! Weekend Plastic Model! The 23rd issue has begun!

The 23rd MODEROID 1/35 Exoframe for general-purpose work (Gray)

Good Smile Company has released the "Exoframe for General Purpose Work" of the mysterious mechanic "Exoframe" that appears in the YouTube original animation "OBSOLETE," which is currently being distributed by popular demand.

EP 4 LOEWNER."

The release comes at a time when we are still waiting for the release of Season 2 with many mysteries left unanswered, although the functions and variations of the Exoframe have been depicted in subsequent episodes, starting with the battle in EP1. (*The latest episodes EP7-EP12 will be released on YouTube on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 8pm!

Let's take a look at the kit, which was commercialized with the same hard image as the work.

It comes as part of the "MODEROID" series. The package design has a particularly austere impression among the MODEROID series.

On the back, there are pictures of painting examples.

The runner configuration of this kit, which is designed for general-purpose work, is quite simple.

There is only one instruction sheet for assembly!

This kit can be assembled in no time at all!

First, let's start with the exoframe (base). This is the basic state of all exo-frames. It took only 30 to 40 minutes to complete this part!

You can get a sense of the size of this mecha from the human figures on board.
You will need glue for plastic models to assemble the female crew member.

The boarding procedure is very simple.

The female passenger figure is also solidly sculpted, not at all inferior to military models of the same scale. When seated on the saddle, the figure is properly positioned to place her hands on the handlebars.

Next, let's take a look at the movement.

The saddle can be tilted back and forth at the bottom of the chest area.

At the waist, there is a roll axis with enough clearance to rotate 360°.

Shoulders are movable up and down at the joints on the torso side.

The shoulders swing back and forth at the joint on the outside of the body.

A spherical joint raises the arm horizontally, and it can also be raised right up to the top. The shoulder can also be rotated and raised up by an axis connection, and there is also a roll axis with a connecting axis between the shoulder and the second arm.

The shoulder alone has this many movable parts, which is surprisingly wide range of motion for a robot kit of this size.

The elbows can be bent this far. The elbows can be bent this far, allowing for human-like movements.

The wrists are connected to an axis, so they can roll and rotate.

The leg joints are also excellent.

Left and right leg openings.

Movable knees and toes.

The toes can also roll and rotate.

As you can see, the figure has a much greater range of motion than one would expect from its size.

If you combine it with AFV's trailer type plastic models, you will be able to recreate the image of the movie even more.

In addition to the female crew, parts for the male crew are also included. The use of adhesives is recommended, but I was able to shape the figure without adhesives.

And another exoframe can be assembled. You can choose between the same body or the one with parts for general-purpose work attached.

Here is the Exo-frame for general-purpose work. It is only an addition of the guard frame and tools around the cockpit area, but it looks different from the bare body.

It is a very realistic mecha and looks like something you would actually see at a construction site.

One left and one right wrist is included to hold the tool. Tools can be held in either hand.

Around the cockpit.

The addition of the guard frame gives the figure a different look from the bare body.

The tool is shaped like a wrench.

The tips of the tools can be opened and closed.

Tools can also be mounted on racks on both sides of the body.

The bare body and the general-purpose work tool are shown side by side. The impression is much different depending on the equipment rather than whether the passenger is male or female. The military-use equipped body gives an even different impression of the mecha, so please be sure to assemble that as well.

The mecha looks inorganic at first glance because it has no face, but thanks to its excellent range of motion, it can be posed in quite expressive poses.

Of course, it can stand on its knees. Although not seen much in the movie, heroic poses are also possible.

Especially for the general-purpose work exos, action poses are also quite possible since they are holding tools.

Even with such a tool, if Exo were to be attacked by a human, the human would not be able to stand a chance.

The wheels connected to the crotch can also be moved back and forth around the waist, allowing the figure to take on this type of running pose. The general-purpose work tool has been transformed to give it a slightly sporty image.

From the back. It runs on three wheels: wheels on the waist and wheels on both knees.

In the movie, you can see it running in this state. So it is up to the passenger how to handle it. In other words, it is up to the person who has this kit to decide how to enjoy it.

This time, I applied "Mr. Weathering Color/Grand Brown" by GSI Creos to the parts other than the passenger with a brush and wiped it off with a dish before the paint dried completely, which is similar to a filtering process. Can you see that the passenger looks a bit duller and dirtier brownish than the molded passenger?

This one may be easier to see.

The exoframe has a muddy impression, so I think it will look even more realistic if you apply AFV techniques to it.

I think you can see the effect of the weathering color by posing it.

Especially, I was pleasantly surprised that the weathering color was well applied to the molding of the wheels on the knees.

The figure is running in a semi-humanoid form.

I also made the general-purpose work exo take a normal running form.

So, this review was lined up with the most austere photos ever. What do you think?

Rather than enjoying the flashy action of a hero mecha, it would be interesting to take advantage of its reasonable size and price to create realistic vignettes and dioramas, or to use scale model parts to create an "if I had an Exo-frame" scenario.

In the "OBSOLETE" movie, various nations and forces equipped and operated their own exoframes, and these will be added to the lineup in the future.

Exo-frames for military use are already on sale, so it might be fashionable to display them all in a row on your windowsill.

Season 2 of "OBSOLETE" will be available soon, and Season 1 is currently available on YouTube. Please check it out before Season 2 is released. You will definitely want to try your hand at making a diorama!

Good Smile Company's "MODEROID" series features everything from flashy hero robots to ultra-realistic mecha that are both austere and realistic, like actual weapons. What kits will be released next? We can't take our eyes off of them!
