Spring 2021 Anime "SHAMAN KING" Announces Michiko Neya & Toru Sakurai as Additional Cast Members!

New characters and cast members have been announced for the TV anime "SHAMAN KING," which will begin airing on TV Tokyo in April 2021.

SHAMAN KING," a popular comic book series by Hiroyuki Takei that has sold more than 35 million copies, tells the story of a boy who can see spirits, Ip Asakura, who participates in shaman fights to determine the top shaman and fights alongside his friends to become the Shaman King. Currently, a new chapter, "SHAMAN KING THE SUPER STAR," is being serialized in "Shonen Magazine Edge" (Kodansha).
It will be adapted into a completely new TV anime in April 2021. Based on the 35 volumes of "SHAMAN KING," the series will continue to the end.

The new characters and cast of the TV anime "SHAMAN KING" have now been revealed.

Michiko Netani will play Jun Michi, Ren's older sister and a Doshi who manipulates the dead into fighting as a Kyonshi. Toru Sakurai will be playing the role of Li Hakuryu, Jun's own spirit and a Kyongshi created using her own body. In addition, comments from the cast have also arrived.

■Jun Michi: CV Michiko Neya

She is Ren's older sister and a Taoist who manipulates the dead into fighting as a Kyonshi. She has been Ren's educator and caretaker since she was a child. She treats Mochirei as tools, sealing their consciousness with spells and completely controlling them. Because he manipulates dead bodies to fight, he is well versed in the structure of the human body.

After 20 years, I never thought I would meet Jun Michi again! I can't help but look forward to it.

■Li Hakuryu: CV Toru Sakurai

He is Jun's Mochigirei, a Kyongshi created using his own body. Before his death, he was a star of kung fu movies and a martial artist who made full use of Dao Dang Dao.

Q1: What is the appeal of this film?
I think the relationship between the shaman and his/her spirit is wonderful.
Each spirit has its own story, with memories of its life, grudges, family members it has left behind, and so on.
Some shamans treat the spirits only as tools, while others treat them like friends.
I think the appeal of the story lies in the way these shamans and spirits strengthen their bonds and come to terms with their past through the story.

Q2: What is your enthusiasm for playing the character of Li Bailong?
I will be playing the role of Li Bailong. My name is Toru Sakurai.
I was so excited to be cast in "Shaman King," which I used to watch as a child!
It is an honor beyond my capacity, and at the same time, I am very excited to be a part of it.

The "Shaman King" is the king of the stars who controls all things in the universe. Those called "Shamans" who can communicate with gods and spirits compete for the title once every 500 years in the "Shaman Fight".
