Original TV animation "NOMAD Megalobox 2" to air from April 2021! Cast Comments Arrive!

The original TV animation "NOMAD Megalobox 2," a sequel to the TV animation "Megalobox," which was broadcast in 2018 and received favorable reviews in Japan and abroad, will be broadcast from April 2021 on TOKYO MX and BS11.

Based on the original story "Ashita no Joe" by Asao Takamori (Kajiwara Ikki) and Tetsuya Chiba, the TV animation "Megalobox" was broadcast in 2018 as a project commemorating the 50th anniversary of the serialization of the story, and was well received in Japan and abroad. Ashita no Joe" is a milestone in Japanese youth manga, depicting the life of the main character, Takeshi Yabuki, who devotes his life to boxing, and was serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine (Kodansha) from 1968 to 1973.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the serialization, the TV anime "Megalobox" was broadcast from April 2018, reconstructing the world of "Ashita no Joe" and depicting the passionate drama of people involved in "Megalobox," a martial art in the near future where people fight by wearing gears. The film gained popularity as a challenging original work. In particular, the retro screen design with an awareness of celluloid-style animation was highly acclaimed, and the film was nominated in eight categories at the "Anime Awards 2019" hosted by Crunchyroll in the U.S., winning tremendous support not only from domestic but also from overseas fans.

This sequel, the first in three years, will reunite the main staff and cast of the previous work to weave a new story with even greater unity.
Directed by Hiroshi Moriyama, who made his impressive debut with "Megalobox. He has been in charge of artwork for numerous high-profile films, including "LUPIN the Third - A Woman Called Fujiko Mine," "Shinkoku no Kyojin" and "Kabaneri the Iron Castle," and his exceptional talent for visual creation is also on full display in this work.

Katsuhiko Manabe and Kensaku Kojima, who have worked on "Midnight Diner" and other movies and TV dramas, have once again joined forces to write the screenplay, which emotionally depicts a new and continuing story.

The music is by mabanua, who has collaborated with and produced numerous artists in Japan and abroad, and is also a drummer and singer himself. As in the previous work, the music incorporating black music brings to life the lives of the Joes, mabanua spins solid music that accompanies the work in the new film.

TMS Entertainment, which has produced the "Detective Conan" and "Lupin the Third" series, and is also the creator of the "Ashita no Joe 2" TV animation series, will continue its animation production on this film.

When I heard about the production of the sequel, I didn't think anything of it. There are many things you can't know unless you go to the site, so I think I was just waiting for the day of recording. While creating the film, I imposed on myself to "let go of various things" in a positive manner. I thought it was necessary to do so...or else it would become something troublesome. There were times when I felt lost about it. But it was refreshing, and because I had experienced the "previous work," I could clearly feel the change from my previous self, and I think I was able to include that in the character. There were many restrictions, but I think we managed to create the film while maintaining what was important. I think we managed to create it while maintaining what was important to us.
