Will be re-released in June! The high-detail plastic kit "Gundam Artifact" is arranged as a high-class display model! Shokugan Road Vol. 18
Hello everyone! This is Kariyasu☆, a hobby writer. In this corner, I will be reviewing, modifying, and playing around with Shokugan kits that interest me, under the theme of "Shokugan for adults. In this 18th installment, we will be looking at the "Gundam Artifact," which is currently on sale from Bandai!
Is this really a Shokugan? I almost exclaimed to myself as I looked at the newly launched "Gundam Artifact" series. The concept of this series is to create a collection of colorless kits with fixed poses (some parts are movable), and while they are miniature and fit in the palm of your hand at only 55mm in height, the parts and molding are as delicate as the original Gunpla. The quality of the product is also convincing, as it is labeled an "artifact".
The name of the model is written on the box, so you can choose your favorite model to build, but it is not clear whether the regular color pale orange or the rare clear red is included. Also, the parts are quite detailed, so you need to be careful not to accidentally skip parts or assemble them in the wrong orientation when fabricating (I did it a little (......)). Precision nippers and tweezers are essential, and a design knife or file may also be used as needed.
Lineup Introduction
The first lineup is an unexpectedly shibu choice! Incidentally, all of the aircraft have been slightly rearranged from previous designs, so be sure to check out the details.
RMS-099 Rick Dias.
The Rick Dias has a simple yet intrepid style. The beam pistol on its back as well as the clay bazooka are also cool!
MSA-0011[Ext] Ex-sGundam
The Ex-S Gundam has an attractive stylish design. The complex shape of the propellant tank and nozzle parts have also been well reproduced.
RX-93-ν2 Hi-ν Gundam
The design and settings of this machine are not unified, but it is well put together in its own interpretation. The face is sharp and cool, and the v-mark on the abdomen is nicely molded.
MSN-04IINightingale.
The overwhelming form and strength of the figure tends to attract attention, but the detailed workmanship is also amazing! Especially, the funnel parts and the backside of the shield are well detailed.
RX-160S Bialan Custom
This machine has a different coolness from the original Bialan. The upper body is so sturdy that it looks unbalanced at first glance, but the axis is solid, so it does not fall down even if the arms are moved. The photo shows it in a rare clear red color, which gives it a different atmosphere from the pale orange.
Let's repaint it like a craft!
When I look at the achromatic pale orange fuselage, it looks somewhat like a resin kit of yesteryear, or a carved wooden figure. ...... So this time, I tried to play with it by repainting it in a craft-like manner!
This kit is made of ABS, so spraying it with lacquer paint or regular surfacer may damage it. So, I sprayed it with a new water-based surfacer (white) recently released by Creos as a base. This could be cool, right?
I sprayed it with Tamiya acrylics in blue and green tones and sponge chipped it with brown to give it a bronze statue look! It looks like a sculpture made of jade.
Rick Diaz was painted in silver like a trophy. I just applied a solid coat of Tamiya acrylic chrome silver, but it looks like a figure cast in white metal. By the way, I did not smear the paint to give it a craft-like appearance (if you do, be sure to try it on the runner part first, as enamel paints and solvents may damage ABS material parts).
I put it on a commercial figure base or wood block as a test, and it turned out quite like that! I am a little hesitant to paint regular Gunpla like this, but with mini-size models, it is easy to try, so it might be fun to try various things, such as painting them gold or gunmetal to give them a more dignified look. Of course, it would also be cool to try a full-scale paint job to create a coloring that matches the setting!
So, what do you think? If you missed the chance to buy the first version, please take that opportunity to give it a try. And we are looking forward to seeing what kind of aircraft will appear in the second volume, aren't we? So, we will see you again!
