Netflix Anime "Yasuke - YASUKE" produced by MAPPA to be distributed on April 29! Completely new action fantasy period drama

Netflix, one of the world's largest online entertainment service providers, will begin worldwide exclusive distribution of the Netflix original anime series "Yasuke - Yasuke" (6 episodes) on April 29, 2021.

Yasuke" is a 6-episode anime series created by Rashon Thomas. It is a fantasy historical drama set in the Warring States period, featuring Yasuke, a powerful ronin who became the first African to become a samurai. Once a retired ronin, Yasuke picks up his sword once again to protect a girl with mysterious powers from the forces of darkness.

The best creators from around the world gathered for this film. Rashon Thomas is the original writer, producer, and director of the film, which will be his second Netflix original animated series, following his previous film "Canon Busters. Animation production will be handled by MAPPA, which has received high acclaim both domestically and internationally for "Doro Hedoro," "Shinkage no Kyojin The Final Season," "Jujutsu Kaisen," and others. Ken Koike ("LUPIN the Third: The Woman Named Fujiko Mine") will be in charge of character design.

Award-winning actor Laquise Stanfield will play Yasuke, and Grammy-nominated Flying Lotus will provide the music. The film is the first African Samurai film to be brought to 190 countries around the world in a completely new production.

There is a certain serendipity in this project. An African-American man moves to Japan to live and work with the geniuses in the Japanese animation world. He is making a story about an African man who goes to Japan to live among elite Japanese samurai and become a warrior, and he feels deeply destined to make this adventure series with MAPPA, Flying Lotus (music), Laquise Stanfield (lead actor), and a talented team. I feel a sense of destiny from the bottom of my heart.
Yasuke is a fascinating and mysterious figure in Japanese history and has been of interest in today's media for decades. I first learned of the existence of the Yasuke character in Japanese history over a decade ago. Yoshio Kurusu's children's book "Kuro-suke" contained an illustration that piqued my curiosity. I learned that Kurosuke was not a fictional character, but a real person, and was even more excited to learn that he was the best character for an adventure story.

I look forward to seeing old fans and newcomers alike enjoy this reimagining of a historical figure.
