Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2021 (TAAF2021), an international animation film festival, will be held in Ikebukuro from March 12 (Friday) to March 15 (Monday), 2021.

The Tokyo Anime Awards Festival (TAAF), which will be held for the 8th time in 2021, is an international animation film festival that is an independent development of the "Tokyo Anime Awards" held from 2002 to 2013 as part of the "Tokyo International Anime Fair".


The festival aims to "develop and promote Tokyo's animation culture and industry by discovering and fostering the next generation of animation creators" and "promote Tokyo's attractions and contribute to the promotion of tourism in Tokyo". Under the slogan of "Tokyo will become a hub of animation," the festival will screen animation works of high quality and originality from around the world in Tokyo.
The festival aims to interact with animation lovers around the world, to provide creators and audiences with stimulation and inspiration, and to transmit a new wave of animation from Tokyo to the rest of the world based on such excitement and stimulation.


The Tokyo Anime Awards Festival Executive Committee and the Japan Animation Association will hold the international animation film festival "Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2021 (TAAF2021)" from Friday, March 12 to Monday, March 15, 2021, at Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan, after taking thorough measures to prevent new coronavirus infection. TAAF2021 will be held in Ikebukuro for four days from March 12 (Fri.) to March 15 (Mon.), 2021.

Opening film "Calamity" 《Four voice actors will appear on stage》 《Four voice actors will appear on stage
The Japanese dubbed version of "Calamity," the latest work by Remi Chaillet, director of "Long Way North: The Top of the Earth," which won the Grand Prix in the Animated Feature Film Competition at TAAF2016, will be shown for the first time. A special message from Remi Chaillet and the dubbed Japanese cast are scheduled to appear on stage during the screening.

In commemoration of the awarding of the Animation Merit Award to Producer Toshio Suzuki, "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" will be screened.
After the screening, there will be an online talk session in which Producer Suzuki will talk about the path from "Animage" to the animation of "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" as a "person who found new value.

Special 10th Anniversary Screening of "Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai" (We Still Don't Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day) 《Guests
In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the TV broadcast of the immortal masterpiece "Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai. The screening will feature three episodes selected by director Tatsuyuki Nagai: the first episode "Choheiwa Busters," the fifth episode "Tunnel," and the final episode "Ano Natsu ni Saku Hana (The Flower That Blooms in Summer)," to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the TV broadcast of the immortal masterpiece.
After the screening, director Tatsuyuki Nagai and character designer and chief animation director Masaga Tanaka will take the stage and talk about their thoughts at the time and secret production stories that can only be told now, 10 years later.

◎Competition Category
The "Grand Prix" and "Excellence Award" and other prizes will be awarded in the feature film category (over 60 minutes) and the short film category (under 30 minutes).
The selection process is based on the pillars of originality, innovation, solid technique, and popular appeal. In particular, the "Student Award" established in the Short Length Competition this year is for students studying animation in Japan.
During the festival, you can enjoy many of the nominated works at the theater with other filmmakers from Japan and abroad.


◎Animation of the Year Category
From among the works screened or broadcast in Japan, "Animation Fan Award" will be selected by animation fans, "Best Work Award" will be selected by animation industry professionals who think "this should be seen", and "Individual Award" will be selected by voting for "this person you should pay attention to".


◎Animation Merit Award
The Animation Merit Award is given to those who have contributed to the development of the animation industry and culture. This award is presented to those who have contributed not only to animation technology and expression, but also to the improvement of the social status of the animation industry in general through educational activities, including human resource development, and international exchange.
