Steam] Cute is right! PC games featuring beautiful girls Part 4

How are you doing, Akiba Research Institute readers? The appearance of Homura and Hikari from "Xenoblade 2" in the Switch's "Super Smash Brothers SPECIAL" was a big hit. As was the case when Mien Mien entered the game, I am sure I am not the only one who feels a surge of excitement and motivation when a beautiful girl joins the game. This is the fourth installment of this series, and it may be getting a little too familiar, but we're back with a feature on Steam games featuring beautiful girls!

A roguelike is a game genre in which a new map or dungeon is created each time the player plays the game; famous examples include the Mystery Dungeon series such as "Shiren the Wanderer" for RPGs and "Dead Cells" and "Enter the Gungeon" for action games. is another game that uses a roguelike system.

The game is a 2D action game with retro-style graphics drawn with dots. The setting of the game is the titular "Jouzei-no-tou" (Tower of Everlasting Life). The story is that the player controls the main character, who has wandered from the real world into another world, and aims to reach the top of the tower in order to return to the original world.

Characters are depicted as cute mini-characters in the normal action screen, but when using skills, cut-ins of the characters drawn in a cartoonish style fill the screen.

There are five characters in the game at the time of this writing, each with their own visuals and different skill abilities. Each character also has a backbone story about how he or she lived in the real world before wandering into the other world, which you can learn about when you select a character.

The characters are all unique and have their own unique settings, such as "Cocoa," a maid girl from the demon world, "Kanae," a self-propelled cleaning robot girl, and "Imawhi," a fox girl over 1,000 years old. The objective of the game is to jump and fly through the towers.

The objective of the game is really quite simple: to move up and up the tower by making full use of jumps. The player has only two basic actions: jumping and skill. The tower is teeming with enemies, and bosses are waiting for you on certain floors, but there are no actions that correspond to normal attacks in this game, nor can you attack by jumping and stomping. The only means of attack in this work is skill, but once you use a skill, it consumes MP, and you have to wait a certain amount of time until the MP accumulates again.

But once a skill is used, it consumes MP and the player must wait a certain amount of time for the MP to build up again. However, there is a "karma" value that decreases over time, and when it reaches zero, powerful enemies will appear. In order to increase this karma, you must advance to the next floor, so you cannot just sit back and relax.

This tension caused by the time limit and the cool time of skills makes the difficulty level of this game challenging, and I felt that the game succeeded in bringing out the best part of roguelike games, which is to "challenge and clear the game again and again".

Another feature that makes this game highly challenging is the fact that there are almost no recovery methods.

It is not that there is no way to recover at all; you can recover by getting a drink at the intermediate buildings along the way, or by using artifacts randomly placed along the way. However, compared to other general action games, I have the impression that there are far fewer means of recovery, and a single damage can literally be fatal. One of the most interesting aspects of this game is the tactical game of whether to use your skills to avoid the danger that looms before you, or to save them for later dangers that may come later.

The most unique point of this game is that the internal structure of the tower is automatically generated every 24 hours in real life.

In roguelike games, the structure of stages and dungeons generally changes with each challenge, but in this title, the system allows players to challenge the same stage as many times as they wish within a 24-hour period. The main feature of this system is that the game is not a simple roguelike, but rather a "dying game" in which players learn by dying and get better at it.

Incidentally, the automatic generation of towers every 24 hours is done on the server, which means that users from all over the world are challenging the same towers as you every day. Online ranking is also implemented, so players can compete with other players in dungeons that are only available for one day, providing a fresh challenge every day without getting bored.

In addition, when the game is over, players can select a relic from their artifacts and send it to other players with their "last words".

A gravestone is erected at the point where the game is over, so it is interesting to realize a loose connection with a stranger online, as if to say, "Someone ran out of steam here..." during the game. It may be that the games of the future will not be rigidly online games, nor will they be played by a single person, but rather games with a "loose social element.

With its cute characters, tasteful retro-game-like dots, challenging difficulty level, and innovative automatic dungeon generation system every 24 hours, "Everlasting Tower" is full of various attractions. At the time of this writing, the game is in early access, and further adjustments and new elements are expected to be added when it is officially released. If the graphics and system are appealing to you, please try out the ever-changing "Everlasting Tower".

2. 3 beautiful women fight with cards! Powerful 3D roguelike card game "NEOVERSE

  • NEOVERSE " (Tinogames Inc.)
  • Genre: Card battle
  • Release date: February 19, 2020
  • Price: 1,990 yen (as of March 4, 2021)
  • Copyright: (C) 2020 Tinogames Inc.

The "roguelike card game" genre has taken root in the gaming world, with a rapid increase in the number of follower titles following the huge success of "Slay the Spire. In this genre, players add cards acquired along the way to their decks to strengthen them and enjoy a fusion of TCG-like and RPG-like elements.

This roguelike card game is a follower of "Slay the Spire.

The game follows the basic system of "Slay the Spire," in which players advance to the next stage while battling enemies using attack and defense cards, acquiring new cards in the process, and evolving their cards to strengthen their decks. The first thing that catches the eye when playing this game is the graphics.

In the roguelike card game genre, such as "Slay the Spire," the graphics are often simple 2D, but in "NEOVERSE," the characters, enemies, and backgrounds are all richly drawn in 3D. Of course, when attacking or taking damage, the characters are animated. At first glance, "NEOVERSE" looks like a 3D action game in which the player controls the main character to eliminate enemies, but it is a card game in its own right.

Since this game inherits the basic system of "Slay the Spire," it is a roguelike card game without any peculiarities in a good sense, making it easy to play for both experienced and inexperienced players. However, it is not just "Slay the Spire" with 3D graphics, but rather a game with many elements and systems unique to this title.

The most important of these is the "combo" system. During battle, blue and red card icons are displayed in the lower left corner of the screen. This adds depth to the strategic nature of the game, as players are encouraged to save blue (defensive) cards for combos.

Another unique system in this title that sets it apart from other similar titles is "Precision" and "Parry. Each enemy has its own HP, just like in an RPG. The basic concept of roguelike card game combat is that players use attack cards to reduce the HP of their opponents, but in this title, if the player manages to defeat an enemy by dealing the right amount of damage, "Precision" is activated and the player gains a bonus that will give them an advantage in battle.

The opposite is true for "Parry," which is triggered when the durability value of the barrier granted to you by a defense card is exactly equal to the attack value of the opponent's attack. When "Parry" is triggered, the opponent is disabled for one turn. In a turn-based game, this is a significant advantage! The puzzle-like element of deliberately saving cards in your hand to activate "Precision" and "Parry," and carefully considering the order in which to use them, is an interesting element unique to this title.

Other features include a system in which players receive bonuses for completing selected missions in battle, an RPG-like training element that allows players to acquire useful skills in exchange for points, and a store where cards and consumable items can be purchased.

Stores are also found in titles such as "Slay the Spire," but this title has a unique system in which a store can be opened at any time during battle and cards and items can be purchased freely as long as money is available. In a pinch, players can rush to the store and pay to renew the product lineup until cards and items are lined up to save the day. This may be a strategy that relies on money and luck.

However, we must not forget that this article is a "special feature on games in which beautiful girls play a major role". Therefore, let me introduce the appeal of the characters here.

The main characters in this game are three beautiful girls: "Agent Naya," "Holy Knight Claire," and "Summoner Helena.

The player selects one of them to start the game, but each of them has a different fighting style and different cards, so a completely different strategy is required, and the game can be played over and over again. In addition, this title has a challenging element: the character's dress-up costumes, which can be obtained by completing conditions. As is customary in bishojo games, there are also swimsuit skins and other sexy outfit changes available, so you can play the game with the goal of getting a new outfit. To be honest, that is actually my goal in playing the game!

The roguelike card game system perfected in "Slay the Spire" is combined with a variety of unique elements such as "Combo" and "Parry," while the beautiful 3D graphics and beautiful girl characters add a luxurious touch to this game.

Although I got hooked on roguelike card games with "Slay the Spire," I personally prefer "NEOVERSE" to "Slay the Spire. Of course, this is partly because the characters in this game are beautiful women, but even without that, I prefer the people in this game, and I am completely addicted to it. I recommend this game to those who got hooked on roguelike card games through "Slay the Spire" like myself, as well as to those who have no experience with "Slay the Spire".

3. Vivienne, a female swordswoman, will shape your destiny! Beautiful 2D action RPG "The Vagrant" by Vanillaware Respect

  • The Vagrant " (O.T.K Games)
  • Genre: Action
  • Release date: July 13, 2018
  • Price: 410 yen (as of March 4, 2021)
  • Copyright: (c) 2018 O.T.K Games

Have you ever played a Vanillaware game? Vanillaware is a game development company with a reputation for beautifully detailed 2D graphics, such as "Oboro Muramasa," "Dragon's Crown," and most recently, "Jusan Kiki Bouei Bouei Kan". I have played most of Vanillaware's games and have always been amazed and entranced by the overwhelming graphics, but "The Vagrant" is a 2D action RPG that can be called a follower title of Vanillaware's works.

The protagonist of this title is Vivian, a wandering female swordswoman. The story of this title is that Vivienne unravels the truth hidden in her family as she travels through the rich natural land of Mithrilia in pursuit of her father, who has fled.

The Vagrant" has a nostalgic, fantasy-like worldview and a profound story, but what is most notable is the character of the main character, Vivienne.

The character of Vivienne, who is not afraid of anything and extends her hand to those in need without hesitation, is as charming and heroic as one would expect from the protagonist of a fantasy story. Vivienne's powerful combo of a dynamite body and revealing clothes is another of her charms that cannot go unnoticed. The 2D action screen, which is the main part of the game, as well as the cut-ins that are interspersed throughout the story, will make it very difficult for the player to look at Vivienne!

The greatest feature of this work is its beautiful graphics.

The entire game is meticulously rendered with beautiful hand-drawn graphics reminiscent of Vanillaware's work. That's no wonder, according to the introduction on the Steam store page, "It took us more than three years to develop this game, because we wanted to create a work like Vanillaware's." The characters are very well animated and smooth. The characters' animations are very well animated and smooth, and the game is finished at a high level of respect for Vanillaware.

The game system of this title is a side-scrolling action RPG, which shows respect for Vanillaware's "Oboro Muramasa.

It is based on an orthodox side-scrolling action game style, in which the player fights enemies that appear while using both normal and strong attacks, as well as jumping and evading.

In addition, a variety of battle methods are available, such as charge attacks activated by pressing and holding a strong attack, combos activated by inputting normal and strong attacks in a predetermined order, and powerful skills that can be activated by consuming MP-like points called "Rage," which can be used instantly while watching the battle situation. You can enjoy highly action-oriented battles.

Incidentally, this title is compatible with PC controllers, so even players who are not very familiar with keyboard operation can enjoy the action with crisp operation by connecting a compatible controller.

While the exhilarating action in this title is enjoyable, "abilities" and "equipment" are RPG-like elements.

Abilities are abilities that can be obtained by consuming mana dropped by defeating enemies and destroying objects. There is a wide variety of abilities, ranging from simple status effects such as "attack power plus 5" to new combo techniques such as "spinning slash" and "drop kick. Learning abilities is based on the skill tree system familiar to RPGs, and the further up the tree you advance, the more powerful abilities you can learn. The system is user-friendly and easy to play, with important abilities that should be prioritized displayed as easy-to-understand icons.

There are four types of equipment: weapons, armor, accessories, and potions, which can be purchased at the store or dropped by enemies. Some weapons and armor have open slots where items called rune stones can be set. This allows Vivian's status, such as maximum HP and critical rate, to be raised. Along with the aforementioned abilities, this is an important training element in this title, giving players the pleasure of seeing Vivienne grow stronger.

The Vagrant" has beautiful graphics, light action, and solid RPG elements, and is a work with a high level of perfection overall. The Japanese localization of the text is also very well done, and the quality of the game is astonishing, with Japanese voices implemented not only for Vivienne but also for each and every villager. This is the normal price, not during a sale, and the fact that a game of this caliber can be enjoyed for less than one coin is more than pleasantly surprising; it is almost alarming! If you are interested in this game, please try it for yourself.

Fighting beautiful girls look better than anything else. That is the truth of this world!

So, we have introduced three recommended titles.

I have reaffirmed the truth that beautiful girls fighting in any genre, be it action, RPG, card games, or any other type of game, look great. There are so many games on Steam in which beautiful girls play an active role that there is no way to introduce them all, so I hope to bring you another feature article soon. Please look forward to it!
