Director Yoshiyuki Tomino followed up "Mobile Suit Gundam" with the 1980 anime "Legendary God of Ideon. In addition to the appeal of the philosophical storyline, the compelling drama that plunges into the essence of human nature, and the spectacular battle scenes, the main robot "Ideon" also boasts a romantic setting as a robot weapon created by the Sixth Civilization, an ancient people, a unique silhouette that transcends the human body structure, and a unique appearance that is literally and figuratively depicted in the main anime. The unique silhouette of the robot, which transcends the human body structure, and its literally "god-like" activities in the main story of the anime have not faded away and continue to hold our hearts and minds even after 40 years of its broadcast.

Such a legendary robot will be released in December 2021 as "threezeroX Takayuki Takeya Ideon.

How did Mr. Takeya, who is known for sculpting organic motifs and creatures, arrange and sculpt the robot that appears in the anime? ......

───Please tell us how this product was planned.

threezero Mr. Takeya and threezero's CEO, Kim Hoon Won, have been friends for many years. Kim is a fan of Mr. Takeya's artistic modeling style, and Mr. Takeya is also a fan of threezero's products for the level of reproduction and exquisiteness. So we started working in 2015 to see if we could collaborate on something.

Kim believes that great products are only created when designers have the freedom to create them, so threezero always respects designers. We believe that by doing so, the product can speak for the designer and convey the story and soul behind it to the user.

For this project, we met with Mr. Takeya at his studio and learned that the original work he was most interested in was "The Legendary God of Ideon," and since that fits perfectly with the style of threezero's robot figures, we decided to use Ideon as the motif. We decided to use Ideon as the motif for the figure. Sunrise also understood and agreed to our plan, and the supervision went smoothly.

Takeya: That's exactly how it happened. Mr. Kim gave me the idea of "something with robots in it," and I thought that if we were going to rearrange it, it would be better if I could feel the breadth of the arrangement, so I suggested, "How about Ideon? I was also shocked by its story and direction when I was young.

───Did you feel any pressure to rearrange the "Ideon" mecha, which was designed 40 years ago and has been loved for many years?

Takeya I am quite insensitive in this area, so in terms of pressure, I am fine, but it is a masterpiece that has many fans, and I went into it with the sense that I had to straighten my collar and make sure that it had reached the point where it would be accepted. So, rather than "completely changing" the original design, we focused on "emphasizing" the unique qualities of the original design.

───Whether it is possible or not with this figure, do you envision the separation of the Ideon into three separate mechanisms?

Takeya: In my mind, I was working on an Ideon that could separate, transform, and combine like a CG figure! I think that would probably emphasize the over-technological feel of the aliens. Instead of tires and caterpillars, it was originally a gravity control device to levitate or something like that. ......

─ ─ Are there any rules or roles for the patterns on the body?

Takeya: Since there are offensive weapons all over her body, I created her with the idea that she has a shape for firing missiles and lasers, but at the same time, I wanted her to look "distant and unrecognizable to people on earth. At the same time, I also wanted to create a "distant feeling that people on Earth would not recognize at a glance," so I deliberately avoided a shape that would allow people to recognize a specific function as much as possible.

───Although it has an organic impression, it also has flat surfaces in some important places, and I felt that the IDEON style was retained in these areas. Is there any particular reason why you did not use many curved surfaces, even though there are some curves?

Takeya: If we use too many curved surfaces (3-dimensional curved surfaces), it becomes difficult to create a sense of immensity, scale, and artificiality, and above all, it would take away from the ideon-like qualities.

───My personal impression is that the original design of this Ideon is a bit "mechanical" as a legacy of the mystery left behind by the "Sixth Civilization", and I felt that the impression of "something unknown" was intensely emphasized in this Ideon. What was the point of this "emphasis"?

Takeya: I was hoping that the reason Ideon was created in the first place was not to be used as a vehicle for humanoid life forms to fight on, but as a "divine being with unlimited power" created by the life forms themselves as a deterrent to prevent them from making mistakes. I created this work while imagining that it could be a "divine being with infinite power" created by a living organism as a deterrent to prevent it from making mistakes. Although the overall form is "humanoid," it is not clear whether it is a model of the Sixth Civilization or a "god statue," and I aimed for a "non-evil, non-evil deformity. I aimed for a "non-evil deformity.

─ Speaking of Ideon, the "Ideon Wave Guiding Gun" was also an impressive weapon. If you had the chance to rearrange the "Ideon Wave Guiding Gun" and other mecha that appear in "Ideon," such as the Buff Clan's heavy-mobility mecha, what would you like to rearrange next?

Takeya: Of course I would like to make an Ideon wave-guided gun, but the mecha from the Buff Clan side also tickle my fancy for arrangement! I felt that Zanza Rub and Jig Mac had a high affinity to begin with, and as for Viral Jin, I fantasize about the old age of ...... where I make that big form and just put diverted parts on the surface!

─ ─ In addition, what are your favorite points of this product?

threezero The artistic design and modeling by Mr. Takeya can be freely posed and enjoyed as a large, fully posable figure. In addition, to achieve reliable movement, a movable frame made of die-cast zinc alloy is used, the same as that used in threezero's PREMIUM series.

Takeya My favorite feature is the high quality product technique by the folks at threezero. Not only the reproducibility and precision of the mold and the meticulousness of the coloring, but also the strength of the die-cast frame and the reliability of the movement are excellent! I, too, am looking forward to enjoying this product with my imagination! And I would be most grateful if those who like this product and buy it can enjoy it.
