Presented to one lucky winner by lottery! The ultimate GUNVALUGAR with 2-stage transformation, coalescence, and proportions of a core robot is now available! I made "MODEROID GUNBALGAR"!

From Good Smile Company's plastic kit series "MODEROID" comes Ganbarugar, the main robot from the anime "Genki Bakudan Ganbarugar!

Akiba Research Institute editor A, who loves robot anime, tried his hand at making an example.

Genki Bakudan Ganbarugar" is an anime that was broadcast on TV from April 1992 to March 1993, and is the second in the "Eldoran Series" that shares the same worldview as the hit "Raijin-O: Absolutely Invincible.

In the previous work, the main characters were all students in the fifth-grade class of Nitto Elementary School, and the gimmick of transforming the school they attend every day into a base, robots jumping out of the gymnasium and swimming pool, and so on, was very attractive.

The setting of "Gambalgar," which started in response to this popularity, is a "town. The three main characters are fourth-grade boys with different personalities and abilities, who usually hide their true identities, but when the time comes, they transform into a superhero called the "Gunbarger Team. Sometimes they board the giant robot "Gambargar" to protect the peace of the town from evil, in the style of a special effects hero. It can be said to be the root work of "Earth Granner," which is currently being broadcast.

Now, "Ganbargar," the main robot of such "Genki Bakudan Ganbargar," has been made into a long-awaited plastic kit. I had high expectations for the prototype model when it was announced, but when I actually assembled it, I was very satisfied with the finish that exceeded my expectations!

So, let's get started with the review.

In addition, we are giving away a "MODEROID GUNVALGAR" to one lucky reader! Please don't miss the end of the article!

Let's start with the package.

This is a super cool box art showing Ganbargar and the three core mecha before they combine.

Looking at the box from the front, it doesn't look that big, but the depth is quite impressive. The three robots are actually included in the set.

Here are the contents. The number of runners is quite voluminous, as there are enough runners for three robots. They are very colorful and can be assembled as they are to recreate the coloring of the robots, but as is customary with "MODEROID," there are also pre-painted parts.

The camera eyes, wings, and gunbar sword blades, which are difficult to reproduce with stickers or molded colors, are pre-painted. This is very helpful!

Let's start assembling the figure!

First, let's start with the core mechanical form before merging.

From this animal mode, Miracle Change can be seen at ......

Transform, transform, transform, transform!

And then ......

Gambalgar combines into Gambalgar!

Just by attaching stickers to the bare figure, this is the result!

And it is surprising that the only extra parts are the weapons of each core mecha, and the only additional parts are the horns on Gambalgar's head.

It is amazing that the only extra parts are the horns on the head of GUNVALGAR! It's super exciting to transform and combine the mecha.

Let's take a look at each mecha.

■Gou Tiger

This is the tiger-shaped core mecha that the main character, Yellow Gambargar, a.k.a. Torataro Kirigakure, rides.

It is composed of the abdomen, waist, and thighs of Gambaruger.

It used to launch from parks and shopping streets. Speaking of Torataro, Ai Orikasa's mischievous boy voice was really cute.

Animal mode. The yellow lines on the shoulders and back legs, as well as the black lines on the front legs, are treated with stickers.

The use of adhesives is recommended for the face parts.

The front legs are movable since they also serve as arms for the fighter mode. You can fold the front legs as much as you like to make the figure lean forward, or raise one hand.

The tail is a go-saber mounted on the buttocks.

It is also possible to attach the Gou Cannon, which was also available as a toy at the time of the anime broadcast.

For those who prefer a more attractive appearance, parts are also available to recreate the same form as in the anime.

The animal-like appearance has been strengthened!

By the way, this is what it looks like from the bottom.

Next is the fighter mode.

Despite its small size, it moves very well! In particular, the waist also serves as the waist of the "Gunbalgar" form, so the upper body can be twisted, and the thighs are movable on three axes, and by pulling out the joints, the legs can be bent even deeper.

On the back, you can choose between carrying the tiger face or the go-cannon. Both are hard to throw away!

If you want to be completely anime compliant, you can also choose not to carry anything on your back.

Mach Eagle

Next, we introduce the Mach Eagle, a bird-shaped mecha.

The pilot is Takasuke Kazamatsuri, a.k.a. Blue Gambar. He was an honor student type of boy who attended cram school and took lessons, but inwardly he seemed to be dissatisfied with that. When he is working with Torataro and his team as a member of the Gamba team, he is an active and lively boy.

The Mach Eagle that Takasuke rides in was launched from intersections and highway interchanges in the town.

Now, how is it finished?

It is very well put together as a bird-shaped mecha. It looks cool!

The head, chest, arms, and back wings make up the head, chest, arms, and back wings of the Gambargar. All of that is packed into this little body. It's amazing!

One point to remember when assembling is to apply the red line stickers before assembling the wings. If you assemble the wings first, you will have to take it apart again and reapply the stickers, so be careful!

Next is the fighter mode!

It can be transformed without any extra parts.

The legs also serve as the arms of the Gambargar, so they cannot be opened in a figure of eight, but there is a roll axis, so the toes can be pointed outward there.

The arms can roll back and forth at the shoulder area.

The head, although so small, is movable with ball joints.

The wings on the back are quite large, making it difficult to balance. It may be difficult to stand the figure upright by itself. Use a stand or lean forward a little to make it stand.

Incidentally, the leg parts also serve as the arms of Ganbarger. Since these parts are subjected to heavy loads during the transformation sequence, some metal parts are used to compensate for the strength of the parts.

These parts are included in the kit in a preassembled state, so even those who are not good at assembling small parts can rest assured that they are in good hands!

■King Elephant

The last core mecha is the elephant-shaped King Elephant.

Gambarred, aka Rikiya Nagarezaki, is the gentle but powerful baseball boy who rides this elephant. Toshi Shimada's high-tension performance made us laugh every time.

King Elephant constituted the legs of Gambargar and the Gambar Shield. Because of this configuration, it had the most wrinkled proportions of any toy at the time of its broadcast. It was barely recognizable as a robot. ...... may be an exaggeration.

So what about the MODEROID version?

Let's take a look at the animal mode right away.

From all angles, it looks like a magnificent elephant.

If you look at it from the back, you will see that the legs of the gambalger are mounted.

And on the back side of the elephant's ears, you can see ......

The Gambargar's horns, which are surplus parts, and the grip hand used in King Elephant's fighter mode are hidden.

This will reduce the risk of losing the parts.

Then the fighter mode.

Thanks to the advancement of technology!

The figure has a massive form and movable limbs, typical of King Elephant!

The arms can swing back and forth at the shoulders and swing outward. Compared to the products of the time, it is a world apart.

Equipped with King Tomahawk! The figure is larger than its height, so it is quite powerful.

It would be nice to display it in its core mecha state, but Ganbargar is a combined robot! So, let's enjoy the combined figure as well.

Gambalgar

When combined, it looks like this.

You can combine them as they are, but the hand parts are too small to hold the Gambar Sword or shield, and the connection between Gow Tiger and Mach Eagle is only one pin on the front of the chest, so I was a little worried about the holding power.

So, let's replace it with a good-looking part.

After the replacement, it looks like this.

The legs are thicker and the hands are bigger, so the whole body is now more balanced.

By replacing the waist and knee parts, Ganbaruger looks more like the anime.

Now let's check out the parts used to make it look good.

Let's start with the hand parts.

This hand is from ......

This is how it will look like. The hand becomes bigger and can hold a sword and a shield.

There are also flat hand parts.

Hey, how are you doing? How are you?

Next is the waist.

Remove the parts that hold Gou Tiger's knee parts and Animal Mode's legs: ......

By covering the waist with parts that are more important to look good, you can create a clean and neat waist as depicted in the anime.

The interference of the parts has also been reduced, making posing easier.

And then there are the legs.

The knee armor is too big, the inside of the leg parts are a bit lonely, and the pins are noticeable. ......

By removing the knee parts and fitting the additional armor inside the legs, the silhouette becomes sturdier and sleeker, giving the figure a more secure feeling.

And the back.

The arms of the GOW TIGER and the nose of the MACH EAGLE are packed together, and this gives a nice dense feeling, but the upper body is a little insecure.

So I went to ......

I replaced it with this part. The pin is inserted into the back of Mach Eagle and Gow Tiger, so the fixation of the upper body will be strengthened.

If you just want to display the figure standing up, I think it will be fine without replacing the parts, but if you want to make the figure poseable or play with it by moving it around, I think it will be more secure if you use the parts that make it look better.

Let's play with them in various poses!

Ganbaruger! Miracle Combination!

Exploding with energy! Gambargar!

Let's equip Ganbar Sword and Ganbar Shield.

By pulling out the hip joints, the movable range of the thighs can be extended.

Posing with the waist down!

The knees and ankles have ball joint connections, so you can move them quite freely.

The shield can be held in a grip and pointed forward, or mounted on the side of the arm.

Heyaaaaa!

Reproduced the pose of pulling up the gun bar sword from the ground!

The weight of the sword is very cool to see even now!

Gamber Final Attack!

By the way, you can make your own original weapon by combining the extra parts.

It becomes a Naginata-like weapon. A playful extra gimmick!

So, that's the "MODEROID GUNVALGAR".

The proportions and mobility of each form are in perfect balance, and the gimmick of combining the two is reproduced as much as possible. In addition, additional parts are available at ...... to make it look good when displayed, and the attention to detail that goes into every user itch is very pleasing.

The production time is about 4 hours.

You assemble 3 robots and then combine them ......, so it's like assembling 4 robots in effect. I think it is a very cost-effective kit. You can concentrate on building it on your day off, or assemble it little by little every day.

In addition, the release of "Revolgar" and "Gekiryuuger" is also scheduled in the future, so you should be able to create a super miracle combination to "Great Ganbargar". ......

We can't take our eyes off of these future developments!
