Hello everyone! This is Kariyasu☆, a hobby writer. In this corner, I will review, modify, and play with the Shokugan kits that interest me under the theme of "Shokugan for Adults. The 19th issue is the "World Tank Museum Kit vol. 6," which is currently on sale from EFTOYS!
Update on March 29, 2021: Some inappropriate content and expressions were found in the article, and the relevant parts have been corrected and deleted. (Editorial Department)

The "World Tank Museum" series, planned and produced by Kaiyodo in the 2000s, was a huge hit. Continuing the spirit of the series, the sixth installment of the "World Tank Museum Kit" is finally here, allowing you to enjoy precision tank modeling in 1/144 scale!

The kit is pre-colored and very easy to assemble. Realistic marking decals are also included. The cute illustrations by popular illustrator Yoh Morinaga on the back of the assembly instructions will inspire you to build the kit.

What you will need: Nippers, tweezers, glue for plastic models (a little used for small parts, etc.)

Lineup Introduction

The lineup this time is, as expected, "Centurion mk1", "Type 5 medium tank", and "JS-3", 3 types of minor vehicles x 3 patterns that were developed at the end of WWII, but did not play an active role in actual battles! Well, this is irresistible!

CenturionMk.1(UK)

A masterpiece tank that became the basis of the modern mainstay tank, the MBT. Although it was completed at the end of the Great War, the war ended before it could be used in actual combat, so it was a minor vehicle that did not see much action. The well-balanced, clean design is very attractive.

From left to right: a desert version inspired by the "WOT (World Of Tanks)" game, a gray version inspired by the "Gal Pan" game, and a British Army version based on historical facts.

Type 5 Medium Tank (Japan)

A large tank developed by the former Japanese Army, commonly known as the "Chili. Only one prototype was made before the end of the war, and there were no plans for mass production, so the tank was shrouded in mystery until the end of the war without being deployed in actual combat.

In the instruction manual, the part numbers 5 and 11 are reversed, so be careful when assembling!

From left to right: three-color camouflage specification, GHQ seized and confiscated specification at the end of the war (like a documentary photo), and "WOT" single-color specification.

JS-3(Soviet Union)

A heavy tank developed by the Soviet Army at the end of the war, also called "IS-3". It was not ready in time to fight either the Germans or the Japanese, and was virtually unveiled for the first time at a victory parade held immediately after the war, where its massive style and powerful main gun shocked the Western nations. The massive style and powerful main gun shocked the West. More than 2,000 were mass-produced during the Cold War, but they were used only to a limited extent in actual combat. The flattened cast turret is a distinctive feature of this model.

From left to right: 1956 Hungarian uprising specifications, Egypt 1967 125th Tank Brigade Third Middle East War specifications, home-deployed specifications (1945).

Let's try to make a diorama! Easy version

After the assembly is finished, let's play with the diorama! First, let's start with the easy version that anyone can do. First, let's recreate a battle (running) scene using Centurion's desert specification.

The desert (wasteland) is completed by applying Tamiya Texture Paint's Light Sand to the base of a plastic case sold at a 100-yen store and applying gradations with Tamiya's Weathering Master or pastels. After that, if you color the cotton for handicrafts moderately with water-based paints and combine them well, you will have a diorama of a Centurion acting in the desert (wasteland)!

If you tilt the tank body strongly, you can create a lively atmosphere that is different from the movement of actual tanks, and is similar to tanks that appear in anime and games.

Try making a diorama! Step Up

Now, let's take a little more time and effort to create a diorama. Using a Type 5 medium tank and a JS-3, let's create a diorama of a fictional battle scene!

As in the easy version, the base is a long and thin plastic case from a hundred-yen shop. After pasting styrene board cut to fit the base, apply pouring adhesive to dissolve the surface in order to express the unevenness of the ground (tool cleaner can be used instead). Incidentally, this time we want to make the Type 5 medium tank duck in (to hide the body part of the tank), so we cut out a portion of the styrene board to match the body of the tank.

After painting the sides black, apply Tamiya Texture Paint Dirt (brown), and after it dries, sprinkle pastel (pigment) to change the color. This is the same as the easy version.

Finally, glue the plants and trees sold for dioramas in a well-balanced manner, and use a fine brush to apply yellow and white paint in a chon-chon manner to make the flowers bloom, and you are done! This time, I painted it brighter overall because I imagined the land in spring to summer. Also, grass is placed on the Type 5 medium tank for camouflage.

In reality, it is not very common for large tanks to engage each other in firefights at such close range, and if they are to hide in the grass, they should be thoroughly concealed, but for this model, the emphasis was placed on appearance!

Japanese tanks have been spotted! Get them before they get you!

The JS-3 has a hard turret, let's give them a shot to the side of the tank!

This is what it looks like when you shoot outdoors on a sunny day. I felt like a soldier hiding in the grass with his tank. It's fun to shoot under real sunlight, so I encourage everyone to give it a try!

So, how was it? I am looking forward to seeing what kind of tanks will appear in the seventh installment. See you again soon!
