Anime Writer's Choice: 5 Noteworthy Anime Films for Spring 2021! Anime Column

The most popular anime season of the year has arrived, and according to Akiba Research Institute, there will be more than 60 anime titles in the spring of 2021. Among them, we will introduce 5 notable titles. Kyokushudo" which attracted attention for its live-action PV, original SF anime "Vivy -Fluorite Eye's Song-", the first Godzilla TV series in Japan "Godzilla S.P <Singular Point>", "86 -At Six" which won the grand prize of the Dengeki Novel Award, and "The World's First Produced Novel Award", which won the world's first prize of the Dengeki Novel Award. The five works picked up include "86-ATICS", the grand prize winner of the Dengeki Novel Award, and "Super Cub", the motorcycle that everyone knows, with a total of over 100 million units produced worldwide!

Kyokushukyuu-michi

Netflix's anime adaptation of a chivalrous comedy manga in which a legendary gangster, the immortal Ryu, washes his hands of the underworld and pursues his path as a full-time househusband. Wearing a pitch-black suit and apron, he cooks kyaraben (character bento) with his brilliant doss handling, and the combination of a mobster and a househusband is hilarious. Ryu is played by Kenjiro Tsuda, who starred in and directed the live-action PV of the film. In the trailer, he shows off his unprecedented character by making a meta comment in a sly voice: "Netflix is really doing a very strange business, isn't it?
The director is Chiaki Kon, who has portrayed outlaws such as mafia and gangsters in "La storia della Arcana Famiglia" and "Back Street Girls - Gokudorsu. The daringly motionless direction reminiscent of "Gokudorsu" is still present in this film. The fast-paced, raging gags will leave you wanting more.

Vivy -Fluorite Eye's Song

Original science fiction anime produced by WIT STUDIO. The original story is written by Tatsuhei Nagatsuki, author of the fantasy novel "Re:Zero kara Hajimari Isekai Seikatsu" and Eiji Umehara, who wrote the script for the anime. The two authors adopted the unusual method of writing down the original novel prior to the scenario. The theme song, insert songs, and musical accompaniment were written by Satoru Kamizaki, and a variety of other attempts were made to depict the world of songs and AI.
The main character is Vivi, an autonomous humanoid AI girl with a mission to "make everyone happy through singing. Time travel, which was also an important element in "Re-zero," plays a key role in the story, and one wonders what role time will play. The voice of Vivi is sung by a new artist, Kairi Yagi. The OP theme "Sing My Pleasure" is used in the first PV, and her singing voice will express AI's growth as a diva through her travels.

Godzilla S.P ＜Singular Point

Godzilla, the monster movie created in 1954, has been developed into Japan's first TV animation series. The most memorable Godzilla anime is the "GODZILLA" theater trilogy released in 2017-18. The third PV depicts a scene in which Godzilla appears in a deserted shopping district with the familiar accompaniment in the background, raising expectations even more than before. The second PV, which begins and ends with Jet Jaguar, is also very ambitious.
Directed by Atsushi Takahashi and written by science fiction writer Tou Enjou, the two had previously worked together on "Space☆Dandy" as storyboard and script writers, and their story dealing with written aliens and recording media was profoundly different from the other episodes. This time, too, the first episode is packed with a large amount of dialogue, and the story is told in a way that will become a habit for viewers who are familiar with Godzilla alone.

86- Eighty-Six

Based on a novel that won the grand prize at the 23rd Dengeki Novel Award. It is a military science fiction action story in which the "Eighty-Six," who are not treated as human beings, board the unmanned combat machine "Juggernaut" and engage in bloody battles against the unmanned weapon "Legion.
The second PV depicts the Republic of San Magnolia, which claims to have suffered zero casualties in the war, and the heroine Raina, who hates the system that is built on the sacrifices of the Eighty-Six. The cries of the Eighty-Six, who are forced to ride unmanned combat machines and fight on the front lines, are also heartbreaking. Animation production was handled by A-1 Pictures and CG production by Shirogumi. A plastic model of the Super Cub is already on sale, and we are sure that we will be able to enjoy the action scenes with detailed depictions of the machine.

Super Cub

This is a coming-of-age story about a high school girl living alone without parents or friends, who gradually changes when she buys a used Super Cub. Speaking of works with impressive motorcycles, "AKIRA" and "Bobby ni Chukkake" and recently "Bak-ON! and "Yuru Can △" in recent years, and its compatibility with anime is well documented. Honda Motor Company, the manufacturer of the Super Cub, is the collaborator and supervisor of the project, and we are looking forward to seeing what kind of scenes we can expect to see.
The director is Toshiro Fujii, who drew the motorcycle date scene in the "18if" episode he was in charge of. In the same episode, Debussy's piano piece "Moonlight" was used, and in the first PV for "Super Cub," "The Maiden with the Flaxen Hair" is playing, matching the serene atmosphere of Yamanashi Prefecture, the setting.
