The "Sword Art Online" series of novels by Reki Kawahara, winner of the 15th Dengeki Novel Award (Grand Prize), is published by Dengeki Bunko.
The story, which depicts the activities of the main character Kirito in the next-generation VRMMORPG "Sword Art Online," has been highly popular since the first volume of the original novel was released in April 2009, and as of 2021, the total number of copies sold worldwide exceeds 26 million, making it a huge hit.

New information about the film was announced during the "SWORD ART ONLINE - Progressive - Aria the Movie: A Night Without Stars" special stage at AnimeJapan 2021 on March 27 (Saturday).

The new "Aincrad Arc," which will be drawn from the perspective of Asuna by the original author, Reki Kawahara, will be released in the fall of 2021. The second special trailer and the second key visual show the character "Mito," who is not depicted in the original novel "Sword Art Online: Progressive," but will make a new appearance in the movie version. Inori Minase, who voices Mito, made a surprise appearance on the AJ stage. The new character will also be a focus of attention as to what role he will play in the game.
