BlooDye's OP "Where you are feat. LITTLE(KICK THE CAN CREW)" from the anime "Buradorabu" shows "anachronistic" and sad love - Interview with BlooDye's new formation.

BlooDye is a vocal and performance unit led by voice actors Kanako Takatsuki and Karin Isobe. Since its formation in June 2019, the unit has been active in CD releases and live performances as well as being the official ambassadors of Mamoru Oshii's new anime "BlooDye" currently being distributed.

In August 2020, the graduation of four performers was announced, and Anna Ichioka and Yui Sakurai joined as new performers in December of the same year. The first single "Where you are feat. LITTLE (KICK THE CAN CREW)" will be released on April 7, 2021 as the first single under the new organization.

The second chapter of BlooDye, which has taken in new blood and is now even hotter, is about to begin.

Where you are" shows love with a sense of "anachronism

─ ─ As we have a new lineup, could you please introduce yourself and your role in the unit?

I am Kanako Takatsuki, the leader of the unit. I am the leader of the unit, Kanako Takatsuki. I do vocals, write lyrics, and produce costumes.

I am Karin Isobe (Isobe), and I am the vocalist of BlooDye.

Anna Ichioka (Ichioka ) My name is Anna Ichioka, and I am a performer. I am Anna Ichioka, a performer, and I would like to try my hand at vocals in the future!

Yui Sakurai (Yui Sakurai) I'm Yui Sakurai, also a performer, and I'm working energetically in BlooDye (laughs).

─ ─The unit name "BlooDye" is a coined word, isn't it?

Takatsuki: Yes. It is a coined word combining "Blood (red blood, fountain of life)" and "Dye (dye)," and was named with the hope of dyeing everyone in BlooDye colors.

─ You are also an official ambassador for the anime "BlooDye Love," which is also associated with the unit name.

Takatsuki: As an ambassador, I participated in the press conference at the time of the production announcement of "Buradorabu" and presented the starting song "Somewhere on This Earth". That was also my first activity as BlooDye, and I had a chance to talk with General Director Mamoru Oshii at that time.

─ What was your impression of Mamoru Oshii?

Takatsuki: I was originally a fan of Mamoru Oshii, so I was a little nervous, but when I met him, he was very friendly and gave me a gentle impression.

─ ─ Your 2nd single "Where you are feat. LITTLE (KICK THE CAN CREW)" to be released on April 7 is also used as the opening theme song for "Buradorabu," an anime by such a general director, Mamoru Oshii.

Takatsuki: "Where you are" was originally a BlooDye song before it was chosen as the theme song for "Buradorabu". In order to be used this time, we wrote new lyrics to match the world view of the work, and with Little's participation as a rapper, the lyric has been reborn as a new song.

I felt that the sadness of the song really stood out.

Isobe: There is a part in the chorus where Kanako and I are singing opposite each other, and that is where the sadness reaches its climax. You can see the expressions on each other's faces, and I felt like we were expressing our feelings to each other in the song as well.

Takatsuki: This song is about love and how we feel for others, and it is also linked to the feelings that Mitsugu Bamba, the main character in "Buradorabu," has for Mai, the vampire. This feeling is something that everyone has in any age, and I think it is also a part of the worldview of the work. Director Oshii also created a work that somewhat reminds me of the Showa period with a modern cast, and I expressed this "sense of anachronism" in "Where you are".

Sakurai: I was conscious of expressing the sadness of this song by making the dance moves more lively and dynamic.

Ichioka: I tried to match the facial expressions and performance with Little's cool rap and Kanako and Karin's strong yet soft singing voices. Also, this song was originally composed of four performers, but we decided to try it with two performers, so we practiced together to make sure that the positions and lines of movement of the two performers were correct so that their expressions would appear larger than they were.

───Did you all share your opinions on the production of the music video?

Isobe: I have the strong impression that Kanako-chan led the way. The two performers had just joined the group, and we started shooting the music video without much opportunity to talk to each other, but Kanako's presence helped create the atmosphere, and everyone naturally came together. I thought she was a "natural-born leader" (laugh).

Takatsuki: From now on, when I introduce myself, I should say "I am Kanako Takatsuki, vocalist of BlooDye and "natural-born leader" (laugh). But when we started to perform, everyone looked so sharp. But once the performance started, everyone looked sharp and quickly adapted to the changes in the situation.

Ichioka: As new members, we were very nervous until the day before the shoot. But the two of you welcomed us gently with open arms, so we were able to go in naturally.

Thoughts on the restart of the new organization and the face-to-face live performance

Takatsuki: This song is the theme song for the smartphone game "Dragalia Lost," and I thought it was a cool song from my first impression.

Isobe It's a catchy song, and many of BlooDye's songs are somewhat new and catchy to my ears, but this song also felt like it entered my body after just one listen.

Sakurai: I get the impression that this song is powerful and at the same time has some kind of depth to it. I dance to the song, hoping to express these feelings that are difficult to put into words.

Ichioka: The background sound is so powerful that the dancing is just as intense as it is. We went through a lot of trial and error to find the right angle to show the power of the footsteps, so please pay attention to the dance part as well.

─ Was there anything you paid attention to in the way you sang?

Isobe: I found it hard to say "Terrestrial paradise" ...... (laughs).

Takatsuki: When I said the name of the song, I had to confirm that it was "Terrestrial Paradise," right? (laughs). The lyrics of this song are also produced by Daisuke "DAIS" Miyachi, and they have a lot of cool kitchen phrases that I wouldn't say myself.

Isobe (Daisuke "DAIS" Miyachi) is a romantic (laughs). Also, Kanako's rap is also released in this song.

Takatsuki: As this song is from the new group, I hope you can feel our determination to keep challenging new things in this song.

─ The anime version includes "Buradorabu" starting song "Kono Chikyu no Kondokade" and "protect you", right?

Takatsuki: "Kono Chikyu no Dokodate de" is a song that everyone can jump up and down together and get excited at the live performance. I hope that people who like "Buradorabu" and buy the anime disc will listen to this song and want to go to the live performance as well.

Ichioka: The unveiling live performance was also online, so I haven't yet been able to do things like "1, 2, 3, jump! I can't wait to see the view from the stage. I can't wait to see the view from the stage.

─ ─ Lastly, do you have a message for your fans?

Takatsuki: We have been working as BlooDye for more than a year, and many of our fans have been asking us for a soundtrack. We are finally able to release "Where you are feat. LITTLE (KICK THE CAN CREW)" as the opening theme song for the anime "Buradorabu". I feel that we have finally made a start in the year 2021, and I would like to use this as a starting point for more and more activities to meet everyone's needs. I hope that many people will get to know us from now on, so please give us your support!

Isobe: We have not yet been able to perform in person as the new BlooDye, so we are looking forward to meeting you and performing for you soon. Some of you may have been reassured by the new BlooDye after watching the live streaming of its unveiling the other day, and some of you may still be at a loss because you have yet to meet the new BlooDye in person. We will do our best to do what we can from now on, so that everyone will "want to support" the new BlooDye from now on. I will do my best to make everyone want to support BlooDye in the future.

Ichioka: It has been three months since I joined the band, and one month since our debut live, and I am in the process of absorbing all of BlooDye's songs, including those from the past. I would like to grow together as a larger group by adding my own strengths and the charm of the new BlooDye on top of the good qualities of the previous BlooDye, so please give me your support.

Sakurai: I am not able to meet you all face to face at the moment, but I am grateful that there are still people who support us. I don't know when we will be able to have a face-to-face live performance, but I will do my best to make everyone fall in love with BlooDye by doing what I can do one by one until then.
