Takanawa Chikutei (embankment)
In 1872, Japan's first railroad line opened between Shimbashi and Yokohama. The Takanawa embankment, discovered in Minato Ward, was built to lay the track over the sea when Japan's first railroad was opened. The Takanawa embankment is depicted in the Edo-Tokyo Museum's collection.
