<Story
In July 1988, a new type of bomb was used in the Kanto area and World War III broke out.
Thirty-one years later, in 2019, Neo-Tokyo, a megalopolis on Tokyo Bay, is regaining its former prosperity as it prepares to host the Olympics the following year. Kaneda, the leader of a group of healthy juvenile delinquents, has been riding his motorcycle in this devastated city and repeatedly running amok and fighting. One night, his fellow member Tetsuo encountered a strange experimental boy during a runaway and fell and injured him. In front of the stunned Kaneda and his friends, they are taken away to a military laboratory.
Kaneda attempts to infiltrate the laboratory to rescue Tetsuo. However, there he sees the insane Tetsuo, who has awakened to a new "power" due to excessive human experimentation. Meanwhile, in a special baby room at the institute, an experimental girl predicts the awakening of "Top Secret Akira. Tetsuo begins to approach "Akira," which lies deep underground, in order to get closer to the mystery of his own power.
