Empty Container Collection Box in the Shape of a Giant from "Shinkage no Kyojin! Photos from the unveiling ceremony have arrived!

The CHANGE FOR THE BLUE in Oita Executive Committee held a ceremony to unveil the completion of a recycling box for collecting empty vending machine containers in collaboration with "Shinkage no Kyojin.

The "Shinkage no Kyojin" manga series by Hajime Isayama depicts the battle between the overwhelmingly powerful Titans and humans, and has been popular around the world. The series ended in April 2021 after 11 years and 7 months of serialization.

The series ended in April 2021 after 11 years and 7 months of serialization! The "Scout Regiment Maker" is now open and the Scout Regiment will appear in bookstores⁉

The "Shinkage no Kyojin" and the "Ocean and Japan Project CHANGE FOR THE BLUE," a marine litter prevention project promoted by the Nippon Foundation, have collaborated to create the "Shinkage no Kyojin" series, which is now available in bookstores. The completion and unveiling ceremony of the "Giant"-shaped recycling box was held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at the square in front of Hita Station in Oita Prefecture.

After the ceremony, the empty container collection box was installed in front of the "Dairyu Ramen Kuraryu" store near Hita Station. The location of the installation was decided upon with the cooperation of Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan K.K., and after a field and contents survey by students of Oita Junior College, the location that was deemed most in need of improvement was selected.

This project aims to eliminate the dumping of foreign objects into the collection boxes and improve the environment around the boxes by raising awareness that "empty container collection boxes are not trash cans. In addition, panels to raise awareness of the project were displayed at three locations in Hita City (in front of Hita Station, Patria Hita, and Michi no Eki Suiben no Sato Oyama) from the same day, and a special website was opened and a TV commercial was aired.

The setting reflects the world view of "Shinkage no Kyojin" (The Titans).
This time, a "Giant"-shaped empty container collection box appears next to a vending machine. The intention is to have Hita City and tourists exterminate this Titan.
The story is that through the deterioration of the environment around the vending machine, the Titans have appeared because they have realized that humans have taken up residence there. In order to exterminate the Titans, correct understanding of empty container collection boxes and the cooperation of users are necessary.

Aiming to eliminate the dumping of foreign objects into the boxes and improve the surrounding environment

By raising awareness that the empty container collection boxes next to vending machines are not "trash cans," we can achieve "zero foreign object dumping into the boxes" and "improvement of the environment around the boxes," and as a result, prevent city garbage from being washed into the ocean. The main goal of the installation is to prevent the city's garbage from being washed into the ocean.

The boxes next to vending machines were originally installed for the purpose of properly collecting and recycling containers to build a recycling-oriented society. Dumping of foreign objects, including general trash, is a detriment to recycling, while trash and containers scattered in the surrounding area threaten to wash out into the ocean and damage the ecosystem. It is hoped that the installation will lead to a solution to the marine litter problem.

Activities:
In order to show the next generation a clean ocean, this project will raise awareness of marine litter among the residents of the prefecture and raise their awareness of marine issues. We would like them to pick up trash voluntarily, educate the people around them, and furthermore, move to reduce the amount of trash they emit as individuals.

Change for the Blue
This is a project promoted by the Nippon Foundation's "Umi to Nippon Project" with the goal of raising the awareness of society as a whole that each citizen should make the problem of marine litter his or her own and "not litter the oceans any more.
The project aims to realize the challenge of changing the future of the oceans by increasing the number of people who are interested in the oceans and by uniting all of Japan with the strong will to protect the richness of the oceans and to prevent litter from being emitted into the oceans.
