Gigi Andalusia of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Senko no Hathaway" destroys your brain!

Mobile Suit Gundam: Senko no Hathaway" finally opened in theaters on June 11, 2021, after a long awaited official release due to the recent circumstances that postponed its scheduled release last year.

The movie grossed 190 million yen on the opening Friday and over 500 million yen in the three days of the weekend combined, so we can say that the movie got off to a good rocket start.

Since I helped interview Hiroyuki Sawano, who is in charge of the film's musical accompaniment, I decided to listen to Mr. Sawano's music in the theater's sound system and visited the theater on the opening day of the film's release. After seeing the film, in sharing my impressions with my editor A, I was talking about Giggy, Giggy, Giggy, and somehow ended up writing a column about the film with Giggy as its central theme. I am sorry to preface this article like a diary entry without any substance.

Please note that the rest of this review will be full of spoilers!

Hathaway, whom I met again after 33 years, has become a fine, complicated virgin.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Senko no Hathaway" is a sequel to the story of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack" released in 1988 after a 33-year absence. It is based on a novel published by Yoshiyuki Tomino between 1989 and 1990, but Mr. Tomino had little to do with this movie version. The film was directed by Shuukou Murase. He is well known as the director of the movie "Slaughterhouse Organ," and has been involved in several Gundam works under Director Tomino, including the animation director of "Mobile Suit Gundam F91," as well as the character designer of "New Mobile Suit Gundam W" and an animator who has created famous scenes in various other Gundam works. He is also known as an animator who has created famous scenes in other Gundam works.

Director Murase's drawing style is solid, rigid, and live-action-like. Perhaps reflecting this style, "Mobile Suit Gundam: Senko no Hathaway" has a somewhat dry, Hollywood war movie-like atmosphere. The motifs of environmental problems and terrorism are also so modern that it is hard to believe that the original story was written more than 30 years ago.

Personally, I think I became more interested in the heroine Gigi after seeing the film through the filter of director Murase. As is often the case with otaku of my generation, I tend to see the face of the creator behind the work. In the case of "Mobile Suit Gundam," I tend to look at the dialogue in Tomino's style, or the character modeling, which is very Tomino-san-like. The exception is in the field of "voice," where the director's creativity is less likely to be seen, and I attribute about 80% of my impression of how cool or wonderful Haman-sama is to the power of the voice actress, Yoshiko Sakakibara.

I digress. Director Murase is not the type of creator who makes us feel as if the artist's face is coming out in front of us. Therefore, I was able to accept the beauty and enigmatic charm of "Gigi Andalusia" created by Murase in a straightforward manner. Gigi is cute, Gigi.

The story of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway in the Flash of Light" follows the main character Hathaway, the heroine Gigi, and Hathaway's love interest (?), Kenneth Andalusia, on board the privileged shuttle Haunsen 356. Hathaway's love interest (?), Kenneth Slegg, is on board the privileged shuttle Haundsen 356. Gigi is a girl whose inner life is a stew of mysteries and secrets that are difficult to see, so it is important to show her appearance and words through whose point of view they are portrayed.

The main person who will play that role in this film will, of course, be the main character, Hathaway Noah. Hathaway is the little shit who appeared in "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char of the Counterattack," and her father is Bright Noah, the well-known captain of the White Base. Hathaway was attracted to a girl named Quez Paraya in "Char of the Counterattack," but Quez fell in love with Char Aznable, the Red Comet, and left Hathaway. Moreover, Ques lost his life in the middle of the battle, which seriously affected Hathaway's life and character development.

When I met Hathaway Noah for the first time in 33 years (12 years in the film), he had become a completely twisted virgin. In the film, Hathaway is not portrayed as a virgin, but the loss of Kwes Paraya (?) is the catalyst for his virginity. However, when you take into account that Hathaway Noah, 25 years old, is not very shy about women, that he does not seem to really intend to make a move even if he stays in the same room with an attractive woman like Gigi Andalusia, and that he does not seem to be interested in Gigi's legs and armpits, I think it is safe to call him an honorary virgin, at least. I think it's safe to call her at least an honorary virgin. Gigi, that's disgusting, Gigi.

Hathaway and Gigi - when and where did they fall for each other?

The only non-virginal thing about Hathaway is his cool-headed attitude when he encounters Gigi in his hotel room, which I thought was a strong reflection of his persona as "Mufti Nabiyu Erin," the leader of the anti-Earth Federation organization. I thought that his persona as the leader of the anti-Earth organization "Mufti Nabiyu Erin" was strongly expressed. As the head of an organization, he must be able to deal with attractive members of the opposite sex who approach him with an agenda. Therefore, it can be said that he had the perfect way of rejecting the kind of sexual flirtation and the worst way of reacting to girls in a lucky event. It is really a virginal inflexibility.

Hathaway and Gigi seemed to have some kind of communication and attraction to each other from the moment they met. This is not a metaphor, but a Newtype-like vibrancy. Since the first "Gundam," it has always been the case that Newtype-like men and women are attracted to each other and usually end up in a bad way. Gigi was intrigued by Hathaway's soul, which he sensed intuitively, and the magnitude of the secret he was hiding.

Kenneth, on the other hand, is quick to approach Gighi, but his worldly manner does not seem to resonate with Gighi. The composition of the story is similar to that of the first "Mobile Suit Gundam," in which a powerful, socially and masculinely attractive military man motions to the heroine, but the heroine, a wonder girl, is gradually attracted to the hero's virginity through a newtype connection....... The composition is reminiscent of the relationship between Char Aznable, Lala Sun, and Amuro Rei in the first "Mobile Suit Gundam". It is interesting to note that Hathaway Noah, who follows in Char's shadow, is in an Amuro-like virgin position here.

Kenneth Slegg, a capable, powerful, work and playful, and voiced by Junichi Suwabe, a Date man, would be considered by many to be a more attractive man than Hathaway in the eyes of society. Hathaway is also popular with the women in his organization, but I think this evaluation includes his position as "Mufti Nabiyu Erin" and his illusions. Kenneth's "strength as a social male" is the source of an impressive scene in this film.

This is the scene in which Gigi, who has escaped from the hotel after the Mufti's air raid and is protected by Hathaway, runs to Kenneth (hugging him) and asks for his protection. From Hathaway's point of view, this is a very brain-destroying scene, because the girl who has protected her position in the organization and her proper behavior aside, jumps into the arms of another man. Gigi is terrible, Gigi.

But it is quite natural that Gigi, who has been placed in a mortal situation where she could have died several times, would instinctively know who to rely on in an extreme situation. Living alone in those harsh times, Gigi chose to be sheltered as the mistress of Count Cardius Boundenwooden, who was over 80 years old. I believe that it was a necessary habit for her to recognize and rely on the right person at the right moment in order to survive. In this scene, Gigi running to another man is superimposed on Quesse running to Shah. The way Gigi's sweet voice, "Colonel," is played by Rena Ueda, who plays Gigi, and Eriko Kimura, who directs the recording, is a masterful play on words.

The first thing Gigi did after being given a warm and safe place to sit was to show Hathaway where to sit, give her a warm drink, and then cozy up to Hathaway. When I think of Gigi's actions as an act of realizing what he had done by going to a safe place first and getting comfortable, I think that this is very human. It is an emotion that is quite understandable, at least in the context of Gigi's always enigmatic behavior.

But for Hathaway, a virgin, it was beyond comprehension that a girl who felt as if she had left him would suddenly come so gun-shy and close to him in the next scene. When Hathaway is handed a cup to drink from, she clearly shows signs of being concerned about the indirect kiss. And when Gigi knocked her down from next to him, the ripples on the cup seemed to express what was going on in her mind. I think this was the moment when Hathaway's virility was at its highest, as her mental armor as "Mufti Nabiyu Erin" was destroyed by Gigi's gradual and rapid attack.

I think that Hathaway's instinct is to be sheltered by the strong in order to survive, and that is why I was attracted to her cowardly soul that never loses its integrity despite its inflection.

What? ...... I didn't hear anything about a lover.

In the second half of the story, the issue of Hathaway's virginity takes a new turn. Hathaway's lover, Kelia Dace, has joined the "No, I'm not a virgin" army. Hathaway's friends in the mufti organization include Emeralda Zubin (played by Yui Ishikawa) and Mihesha Hens (played by Misato Matsuoka), but Hathaway does not seem to have any interest in them. However (former?) The serious question arises: when it comes to lovers, isn't it obvious that they do what they are supposed to do?

Kelia is the one who supported Hathaway when she was heartbroken over the loss of Ques, and was the one who inspired her to join the Mufti organization. In fact, it would be natural for him to fall in love with Saori Hayami's voice if she were to be kind to him at a time when he was feeling weak. Therefore, I think that Kelia is a person whom Hathaway cannot thank enough.

However, when Hathaway's heart was being stirred by Gigi, did he seem to be concerned about the existence of his girlfriend, Keria? Oh no, I don't think there was. If you have not read the original novel, the sudden appearance of Keria may have made many of you think, "Oh, he has a girlfriend? I think there must be many people who were wondering "Oh, she had a girlfriend?

There is another mysterious younger girl who is devoted to me, supports me, is considered by the public to be in a relationship, and I am grateful to her, but I am attracted to her in a newtype way. ...... In part, the relationship between Hathaway and Kerria is like the relationship between Shia Aznavour and Nanai Miguel's relationship seemed to overlap as well.

As for Kelia Dace, I wrote "ex-lover" in this manuscript as if she was breathing at first. But according to the character introduction on the official website, Kelia is "a Mufti member and Hathaway's lover. She is the person who inspired Hathaway to join the Mufti. I think that Emeralda Zubin (the red-haired girl), who is trying hard for Hathaway, has a stronger presence as a losing heroine, but if she is officially called a girlfriend, then Hathaway's current girlfriend is Kelia.

If this were "The Super Dimension Fortress Macross," Hathaway and her friends' multifaceted relationship would lead to a story on a cosmic scale, but the original story is based on Yoshiyuki Tomino's novel. ...... I'm not sure if the women will even survive before the romance begins, but I will keep an eye on the second and third parts of "Flashlight Hathaway" to see how the relationship between Gigi, Hathaway, Kenneth, and the losing heroines will turn out.

But Hathaway's father, Bright Noah, had a decent adult relationship with Mr. Slegger and his former fiancée, Kamran Bloom, in getting together with his mother, Mirai Yashima, though. Why is Hathaway, of all people, going after Char Aznable on that front as well? I pity him and find it amusing.
