The results of the "Summer Anime Popularity Poll 2021" are announced! Are light anime the focus of summer anime?

Akiba Research Institute's official poll project, "What will you watch next season? The poll was closed from June 10 to 24, 2021, and the results have been revealed. Let's take a look at the works ranked in the top 10.

Among the many works lined up for this season, "The Detective is Already Dead" came in first place. (17 votes). This work is based on the light novel of the same title written by the author of the 15th MF Bunko J Light Novel Newcomer Award and won the Grand Prize. It is a suspense mystery featuring Kimihiko Kimizuka, a boy who is involved in the world of detective girls and who is the successor to the famous detective girl Siesta. The second runner-up was a comedy.


The runner-up was "Uramichi Ojisan," a comedy work. Based on the popular comic of the same title serialized in the e-book service "comic POOL," it depicts the daily life of a gymnast brother, Uramichi Omota (31), who appears in the educational program "Maman to Together. It is a much-talked-about work that won first place in the Web manga category of the 3rd "Next Coming Manga Awards. The voice of the main character, Uramichi Omota, is voiced by popular voice actor Hiroshi Kamiya, and the cast includes such talented voice actors as Tomokazu Sugita, Yuichi Nakamura, Mamoru Miyano, and Nana Mizuki, which is also a major highlight.


Coming in third place, just one vote behind second place "Uramichi Ojisan," was "One Million Lives I Stand On, Season 2. Based on the popular manga of the same title serialized in Kodansha's "Bessatsu Shonen Magazine," the first season, which aired in the fall of 2020, was also very popular, and the second season, which was originally a two-cour anime, also enjoyed stable popularity and came in at an impressive third place. In the second season, new characters such as Yana (CV: Ayana Taketatsu), Aoyu (CV: Aoi Yuki), and Cantil (CV: Shinichiro Miki) will appear.


Following in fourth place was "Tian Guan Shifu, " a Chinese-based work. This is a fantasy work set in fictional ancient China, where Xie Lian, a prince of the Xianle Kingdom who has been banished from the heavenly realm, meets a mysterious boy named Saburo (Sanlan) and begins an adventure. The Japanese version of the popular series is dubbed by such talented voice actors as Hiroshi Kamiya, Jun Fukuyama, and Yoko Hikasa.


In fifth place was "Kobayashi-san-chi no Maidragon S," produced by Kyoto Animation, which is a long-awaited sequel to the first season that aired in the winter of 2017, four years ago. The main cast continues from the first season. In addition, Yasuhiro Takemoto, who directed the first season, has been replaced by the director of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya," "Chunibyo Douka de Koi ga Shitai! Euphonium. Euphonium," etc., will direct this film. The expectations of anime fans are high, as this is the first KyoAni work to be aired on terrestrial television in a long time.


Coming in at No. 6 is "White Sand Aquatope," a completely new original animation presented by P.A. WORKS. P.A. WORKS has produced many popular coming-of-age works in the past, including "Hanasaku Iroha," "Nagi no Asukara," "TARI TARI," "Glasslip," and "From Tomorrow in a Colorful World," so expectations are high for this work as well.


In seventh place, two works received the same number of votes. One of them is "Tensei Tareta Kara Slymu Datta Netto 2nd Term Part 2," the second installment of a two-cour series following "2nd Term Part 1," which was aired as a winter 2021 anime. This fantasy work about a different world with a mysterious atmosphere made the top 10 list due to its deep-rooted popularity. The other is "Magical High School Honors Student. This is a spin-off of the "Lesser Students of Magical High School" series, which is also famous for keywords such as "Sasuoni." The main character is Miyuki (CV: Saori Hayami), who played the younger sister of the main character, Tatsuya Shiba (CV: Yuichi Nakamura), in this story. As a spin-off of a popular work, this work is sure to be of interest to fans of the series as well as to non-fans.


Following at No. 9 is "I've Been Reincarnated as a Villainous Daughter...X," which has only the doom flag of an Otome game. This is also a second season work following the first season that gained popularity as a spring 2020 anime, and it received a steady stream of votes. The main cast, including the lead character, Catalina (CV: Marei Uchida), continues to be cast. Popular voice actors such as Takehito Koyasu and Sumire Uesaka have also joined the cast as new characters.


In the tenth and final place, there were also two works ranked in the same ballot. One of them is "NIGHT HEAD 2041," an anime version of "NIGHT HEAD," which was once a live-action drama that gained a cult following. The anime features popular male voice actors such as Daisuke Ono, Nobunaga Shimazaki, Takahiro Sakurai, and Kensho Ono. Another "Love Live! Superstar! is the latest in the popular "Love Live! is the latest in the popular "Love Live! A new school idol story begins at Yugaoka Girls High School, a newly established school located between Omotesando, Harajuku, and Aoyama.
