Thunderbirds 55/GOGO," a new theatrical version of the classic "Thunderbirds," will be released in 2022 and distributed digitally.

The TV series "Thunderbirds," which is renowned as a masterpiece of special effects puppetry that makes full use of a unique filming technique called "supermarionation," is a masterpiece by British TV master Gerry Anderson, which was first broadcast in the UK in 1965 and in Japan the following year in 1966.

The unique movements of the puppets, the unique futuristic mechanical design, and the dynamic special effects depicted in the puppet show are said to have rewritten common sense in the TV world. In 2015, a new CG animation was produced, and the film continues to be loved by fans all over the world.

It is especially popular in Japan, where it is known as a legendary work in the tokusatsu world, having greatly influenced numerous Japanese tokusatsu, robot and sci-fi animation works from its early days, including "Ultra Seven", to today's "Shin Godzilla".

Thunderbirds 55/GOGO" will be released in theaters and digitally distributed in 2022.

The "Thunderbirds 55th Anniversary Project" was launched to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the first Japanese broadcast of "Thunderbirds 55/GOGO" on July 7, which is recognized as "Tokusatsu Day" by the Japan Anniversary Association. The film, which will be released as the centerpiece of the project, is a special edition of three episodes produced through crowdfunding by enthusiastic Thunderbirds fans in the U.K., and re-edited for the Japanese release.

These episodes are the first to be made into a film based on a script written as a radio drama at the time. They were filmed using traditional Super Mario Nation techniques as a tribute to the originals and brought back to life as completely new films.

This series is known to have influenced Eiji Tsuburaya, the creator of Ultraman and the "god of special effects" who laid the foundation of Japanese special effects, whose birthday is July 7, which is also the origin of the establishment of "Special Effects Day".

Today, director Higuchi Shinji directs "Shin Godzilla" and "Shin Ultraman. Hideaki Anno, who wrote and directed "Shin Godzilla" and "Shin Masked Rider," is a fan of the film, and many other prominent figures in the history of Japanese special effects have expressed their love for the film. He is a "legend of the tokusatsu world.

It has been 54 years since the original "Thunderbirds No. 6" was released in Japan in 1968, and we hope you will witness the historic moment of the legend's revival.

In addition to the release of this film, the "Thunderbirds 55th Anniversary Project" will also include a cinema concert, the sale of rare goods, and a long-term special program on BS10 Star Channel (https://www.star-ch.jp/) starting in September.
