Atsumare Animal Crossing" and JTB Island created by JTB staff are now open to the public! Enjoy the famous summer spots!
JTB has released "JTB Island," a virtual experience of a summer trip in the Kanto region on the Nintendo Switch "Atsumare Animal Crossing," based on the concept of "experiencing the value of a real experience from a virtual experience.
In order to convey the joy of travel to young JTB employees who are unable to introduce travel due to the prolonged Corona disaster and the restrictions placed on their activities, "Atsumare Animal Crossing" created "JTB Island" where the main tourist attractions (summer attractions) in the Kanto area can be experienced.
Using actual sightseeing spots and areas as motifs, JTB staff reproduced the contents they would like customers to experience, allowing them to enjoy traveling even in a virtual space.

How JTB young employees came to create "JTB Island
With the Corona disaster that has been continuing since last year, it has been difficult to travel and fewer customers are coming to JTB for travel advice. We seriously wondered if we could somehow make our customers feel like traveling, even if it was difficult for them to actually go on a trip.
In such a situation, young employees of JTB started an online game "Atsumare Animal Crossing" called "JTB Island," which is a dream sightseeing island produced by JTB, to provide customers with a simulated travel experience even in their own home time. We started this project with the idea of providing customers with a simulated travel experience even in their own home time.
Points of Ingenuity in Creating the Island
Point (1): We created the island with the aim of giving visitors a true-to-life impression of the real-life tourist attractions. The most difficult part of the project was an area that reproduced the nemophila fields of Hitachi-Kaihin Park. The blue flowers that imitate nemophila do not bloom just by playing the game normally, so we increased the number of flowers by steadily crossbreeding them with each other. As a result, we are proud to say that this area has become a particularly "beautiful" spot on the JTB island!
Point 2) We devised how we could use materials that exist in Atsumori to make it look like a real tourist attraction. In particular, in the Asakusa area located in the center of the island, we used 16 stalls to recreate the Nakamise shopping street, and used steps and My Design Panel to create a 3D effect at Sensoji Temple, which can be seen after passing through the gate.
<Future Development
We are planning to revamp the design so that visitors can enjoy the different scenery and atmosphere of each area as the seasons change, and if the design is well received, we will consider creating a second or third JTB island, such as a new area with a different region or theme.
