The "Gundam Manhole" project, which aims to install original Gundam-designed manholes, has been launched, and as its first step, an originally designed manhole will be installed in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, on August 1, 2021 (Sunday).
The BANDAI NAMCO Group's "Gundam Project (*1)" is an initiative to revitalize Japan and express ties with Gundam fans of all generations across the country in cooperation with local governments nationwide.

The "Gundam Manhole" project is an initiative to install "Gundam manholes," manhole covers with designs of characters and mobile suits from the "Mobile Suit Gundam" series, in various locations throughout Japan. In cooperation with local governments, the project aims to revitalize Gundam in Japan, and to create a bond between Gundam fans of all generations and Gundam. As the first phase of the full-fledged project, which will be implemented in Inagi City, Tokyo and Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture, two types of manholes were donated to Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, the birthplace of Yoshiyuki Tomino, the creator of Gundam.
Following the first phase of the project, the company is also inviting applications and inquiries from municipalities (municipalities and other public offices) that plan to consider installing the second and subsequent phases, so they may be installed in your city as well.

Odawara City original "Gundam manhole
The manholes donated to Odawara City this time are two types of popular mobile suits "Gundam" and "Zugoc for Char" that appear in "Mobile Suit Gundam. The background of the manhole with the Gundam design is Odawara Castle, and the background of the manhole with the Zugok design for Char is the Chochin lighthouse at Odawara Fishing Port, both manholes are unique to Odawara.
These two manholes were donated on Saturday, July 17, and the actual manholes were unveiled at the "Gundam Manhole Donation Commemoration Ceremony" attended by Yoshiyuki Tomino. from Sunday, July 18 to Saturday, July 31, a special exhibition (*2) will be held at Odawara Castle Keep, organized by Odawara City. It will then be installed in the city from August 1 (Sun.). In conjunction with this, various events will be held, including the unveiling of a staircase artwork featuring the Gundam and Odawara Castle, which is part of the Odawara Castle visitor attraction project.
