Report on General Director Anno's message
During the panel session with the moderator, General Director Anno said, "I really wanted to complete the film in eight years, but it took 16 years. Now that it's all over, I'm relieved." I am relieved now that it is all over," he said, looking back on the "Rebuild of Evangelion" series that came to an end.
The story, drama, and technical quality of the work itself has always been maintained at the highest possible level, thanks to the efforts of the staff and cast," he said. Apart from that, I believe that "Evangelion" had something in common with people around the world. Perhaps it was because it was structured in such a way that it could be seen as its own story. It's hard to make a blanket statement, but I think it's the result of people around the world receiving what each of them thought was the right one for them." He also expressed his view on why Eva continues to be loved around the world.
Regarding the ending of "Shin Evangelion the Movie," the third in a series that has ended twice before with the TV series and "Neon Genesis Evangelion the Movie," he said, "I had generally decided on the ending from the beginning. I had a vague idea of how to end the film, but I gradually changed the form and ended up with the ending this time. The details have changed, but not fundamentally. He also revealed the secret story behind the production of the last part of the film.
He added, "Since I turned 61 this year, I would like to make several live-action films instead of Eva. I would like to make a few live-action films in the future, and then I hope to have another chance to do animation. Nothing has been decided yet. She also said, "The way to produce live-action films and animated films is completely different. I am really looking forward to doing a lot of things in live-action that I can't do in animation," he said with a smile. With a smile on his face, he expressed his strong desire to achieve his new goal. In closing, he said, "My works, not only "Evangelion" but also other works I have created, are basically domestic in nature and are aimed at people living in Japan. I am truly grateful and honored that such works are loved by people around the world. Thank you all so much for 'Evangelion,' and I look forward to working with you." He concluded the panel session by expressing his gratitude to fans around the world.
