In 1974, the Takarazuka Revue's Tsuki group began performing "The Rose of Versailles," which further accelerated the popularity of the story. 1979 saw the long-awaited animated version of the story.

The anime versions of "Ashita no Joe," "Treasure Island," "Gamba no Bouken," "Space Cobra," "Ace wo Nerae! and "Ie no Neko," master director Osamu Izaki took over as chief director from the 19th episode. The passionate dialogue of the characters and the beautiful scenery of Paris attracted viewers with its unique anime charm, and the theme song "Roses Fall Beautifully" also became very popular.
